Classification of fault trees and algorithms of fault tree analysis
Microelectronics Reliability, 1990Abstract A new classification of fault trees is proposed, and the relationship between the new and old classifications is discussed. The new classification is illustrated with an example, and the limitation of the well-known simple prime implicant algorithm, which can work on fault trees, is shown.

Fault tree or root cause analysis (FTA) is the most often used graphical deductive system analysis. It is by now the working horse in all fields with higher demands regarding reliability, availability, safety, and availability. It is increasingly also used in the domain of engineering resilience for assessing sufficient efficient response to expectable

The fault tree analysis (FTA) is invaluable as this is the only deductive approach (i.e. top down or effect to cause approach) used to deal with safety and dependability modelling. This chapter describes its position within the probabilistic approaches in general and the Boolean family approaches in particular.

On the Analysis of Fault Trees
IEEE Transactions on Reliability, 1975The paper is concerned with the analysis of fault trees and describes an algorithm for deriving a reduced Boolean sum-of-product (s-o-p) expression from a description of the structure. The algorithm was developed initially as an analytic procedure for combinational logic networks and employs a reverse Polish notation to describe the structure which is ...

In this chapter, a state-of-the-art review of fault tree analysis is presented. Different forms of fault trees, including static, dynamic, and non-coherent fault trees, their applications and analyses will be discussed. Some advanced topics such as importance analysis, dependent failures, disjoint events, and multistate systems will also be presented.

Fault-Tree Analysis by Fuzzy Probability
IEEE Transactions on Reliability, 1983In the present approach based on a fuzzy fault-tree model, the maximum possibility of system failure is determined from the possibility of failure of each component within the system according to the extension principle. In calculating the possibility of system failure, some approximation is made for simplicity.

With the increased use of software in safety critical systems, software safety has become an important factor in system quality. This paper describes a technique, software fault tree analysis, for the safety analysis of software. The technique interfaces with hardware fault tree analysis to allow the safety of the entire system to be maximized ...

Fuzzy importance in fault tree analysis
Fuzzy Sets and Systems, 1984In fault tree analysis, system success or failure can be described by the state of the top event, which is usually defined by a so-called structure function. In this paper, we attempt to simplify the calculation process of the structure function and to newly define the state of the top event by the membership function, using fuzzy sets theory ...

Reliability of products is frequently a prime safety consideration. Interpretation of reliability is both quantitative and qualitative. Extensive quantitative analysis employing probablistic risk assessment has been widely performed to provide predicted hazard or accident minimization.
