THE ROLE OF FAULTS IN THE FORMATION OF THE OKHOTNICHYA CAVE (BAIKAL REGION)

open access: yesГеодинамика и тектонофизика, 2023
The paper presents the results of an analysis of faults of different ranks near the Okhotnichya Cave in Pribaikalye, aimed at identifying their role in the formation and evolution of the cave and its adjacent areas.

Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

Frequency and Time Series Analysis of Surge Arrester in Power Distribution Systems [PDF]

open access: yesAdvances in Engineering and Intelligence Systems
Surge arresters are essential protective devices in power systems that redirect excess voltage and prevent damage to sensitive equipment. Extensive research has been conducted in electro-thermal modeling for surge arresters to better understand and ...

Geometry, kinematics and rates of deformation in a normal fault segment boundary, central Greece [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
The geometry, kinematics and rates of deformation within a fault segment boundary between the ends of two major active normal fault segments have been investigated through examination of a faulted 126 ka marine terrace.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Sedimentology and kinematics of a large, retrogressive growth-fault system in Upper Carboniferous deltaic sediments, western Ireland [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Growth faulting is a common feature of many deltaic environments and is vital in determining local sediment dispersal and accumulation, and hence in controlling the resultant sedimentary facies distribution and architecture.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

INVESTIGATION OF ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS ON SANDSTONE BLOCKS AT LUXOR TEMPLE AND CONCEPTS FOR CONSERATION [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the General Union of Arab Archaeologists, 2016
Sandstone blocks were used in the construction of Luxor temple. However, they, especialy cement materials, were at a great risk because of being affected by various deterioration factors.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...
