Mapping the origin of faunal assemblages using strontium isotopes

Paleobiology, 2003
One of the greatest challenges in using faunal assemblages to make ecological or paleo- ecological interpretations is determining the spatial scale over which such analyses are applicable. As a result, it has been difficult to use these assemblages to test hypotheses about spatial and tem- poral variability in populations.

Faunal Assemblages and the “Wiegemethode” or Weight Method

Journal of Field Archaeology, 1978
AbstractThe “Wiegemethode” or weight method has long been applied to faunal remains from archaeological sites in order to determine the relative representation of taxa in terms of differences in meat weight. The basic assumption of the weight method is that a constant relationship exists between bone weight and meat weight within a taxon.

A Bayesian Approach to Andean Faunal Assemblages

Latin American Antiquity, 2019
Faunal assemblages offer rich data for exploring domestication, subsistence, ritual practice, and political economy. Issues of equifinality, however, frequently complicate interpretations because different agents and processes may create similar archaeological signatures.

Faunal assemblage seriation of southern African Pliocene and Pleistocene fossil deposits

American Journal of Physical Anthropology, 1995
AbstractFossil assemblages from the Pliocene and Pleistocene of southern Africa were seriated in order to give a better idea of their relative chronology. Time‐sensitive mammals were selected for calculation of the Faunal Resemblance Index among 17 site units.

Narcurrer: An analysis of the vertebrate faunal assemblage

1987
This thesis deals with the analysis and interpretation of an archaeological site, and how it fits into the regional pattern of southwest Victoria. Narcurrer is a limestone shelter within a sinkhole in the Western District of Victoria. A taphonomic analysis was utilised, as the faunal component was one of the main features of the site.
