The Exploration of Submarine Canyons and their Benthic Faunal Assemblages.
Proceedings of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. Section B. Biology, 1972SynopsisThe geological exploration of submarine canyons and valleys began late in the nineteenth century.Theories of canyon genesis are many, but the probable causes are turbidity currents or sediment slumps, or both. Recent biological investigations indicate that the faunal composition of canyons is quite different from adjacent depths without canyons.

Temporal constancy of faunal assemblages in 'mesohabitats' - Application to management?
Archiv für Hydrobiologie, 1995Variations in the composition of faunal assemblages in streams are often associated with changes in areas of substrate. An observer walking along the bank finds these areas easy to distinguish and we have used these as our basic ecological unit. Essentially the unit is visually distinct from the bank and we have called it a mesohabitat to introduce a ...

Priority effects on faunal assemblages within artificial seagrass
Journal of Experimental Marine Biology and Ecology, 2007Abstract An enduring challenge for community ecologists is to understand how different assemblages of species are derived from a common pool of potential colonists. Early colonisers can affect the ability of subsequent arrivals to colonise and persist, and thereby influence the development and structure of the resulting assemblage. In two independent
