FBG Interrogation Method with High Resolution and Response Speed Based on a Reflective-Matched FBG Scheme [PDF]
In this paper, a high resolution and response speed interrogation method based on a reflective-matched Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) scheme is investigated in detail. The nonlinear problem of the reflective-matched FBG sensing interrogation scheme is solved by establishing and optimizing the mathematical model.

Enhanced Strain Measurement Range of an FBG Sensor Embedded in Seven-Wire Steel Strands
FBG sensors offer many advantages, such as a lack of sensitivity to electromagnetic waves, small size, high durability, and high sensitivity. However, their maximum strain measurement range is lower than the yield strain range (about 1.0%) of steel ...

Icing Condition Predictions Using FBGS [PDF]
Icing is a hazard which is important for the aerospace industry and which has grown over the last few years. Developing sensors that can detect the existence not only of standard icing conditions with typically small droplet size, but also of Supercooled Large Droplet (SLD) conditions is one of the most important aims in order to minimize icing hazards

Temperature sensitivity comparison between bare FBG and buffered FBG [PDF]
The work presented in this paper compares the temperature sensitivity between bare fiber Bragg grating (FBG) and acrylate buffered FBG. Both FBGs were subjected to temperature variation and their wavelength shifts were recorded. It has been found that buffered FBG is more sensitive than bare FBG due to the higher thermal expansion of the acrylate ...

Railway overhead contact wire monitoring system by means of FBG sensors
Safety of infrastructures represents one of the most significant concerns for governments and service providers to preserve people's well-being. One of the main ways to keep safe facilities (buildings, bridges, railways, etc.) involves the use of ...

Code Division Multiplexing Applied to FBG Sensing Networks: FBG Sensors Designed as Discrete Prolate Spheroidal Sequences (DPSS-FBG Sensors) [PDF]
[EN] We propose and demonstrate a sensing system with fiber Bragg grating sensors designed as discrete prolate spheroidal sequences (DPSS). In this way, we can encode all of the sensing devices in the network making sure that each sensor is completely distinguishable from each other even under overlapping conditions.

Laboratory Testing of FBGs for Pipeline Monitoring [PDF]
The monitoring of the effects of geohazards on pipelines can be addressed by optical fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs). They are sensitive to strain and bending, and are installed on the external surface of pipelines at discrete locations. A joint approach of theoretical analysis and laboratory experiments is useful to check the reliability of the ...
