Feasibility of a Variable-Directivity Locomotive Horn

2012 Joint Rail Conference, 2012
It is estimated that up to 9.3 million persons may be impacted by locomotive horn noise and up to 4.6 million of those may be severely impacted.1 In 2009, there were over 1,900 incidents, over 700 injuries and over 240 fatalities at highway-rail grade crossings.2 The National Academy of Engineering Committee on Technology for a Quieter America has ...

Feasible direction methods for stochastic programming problems

Mathematical Programming, 1980
A unified approach to stochastic feasible direction methods is developed. An abstract point-to-set map description of the algorithm is used and a general convergence theorem is proved. The theory is used to develop stochastic analogs of classical feasible direction algorithms.

Direct Drive Accessories, Feasible by 1980?

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1970
<div class="htmlview paragraph">Direct drive turbine engine control components and airframe accessories are expected to be feasible by 1980. A comparison between a currently operational engine and a projected 1980 engine indicates a weight reduction of 11% and a frontal area reduction of 30% can be achieved by the use of direct drive components ...

Feasibility of Electroencephalography for Direct Assessment of Concussion

2014
In this chapter, we will focus on sport-related concussions as studied through the use of electroencephalography. It should be noted that in this chapter the terms concussion and mild traumatic brain injury are used interchangeably.

On the Convergence of Some Feasible Direction Algorithms for Nonlinear Programming

SIAM Journal on Control, 1967
Abstract : Recently Goldstein has considered the problem of determining conditions on the selection of directions in feasible direction algorithms for unconstrained maximization problems which assure the gradient vanishes in the limit. This paper extends his work (when specialized to Euclidian spaces) in various ways, notably by considering constrained

The method of feasible directions for minimax problems

Optimization, 1992
A general concept of converging algorithms of feasible direction type is introduced using upper approximation functions of the objective. By this means the zigzagging effect can be avoided and convergence to inf-stationary points of the objective is proved.

An algorithm of feasible directions for the aggregation problem

Optimization, 1989
In this paper an algorithm of feasible directions for the aggregation problem is presented- We start by studying the simplest case, when all the variables are aggregated in an only aggregated variable. Afterwards, these results are extended to the general case.

Directed Energy Weapons — Feasibility and Effectiveness

1983
Physicists have known for many years that either a collimated beam of charged or neutral elementary particles or of coherent monochromatic light can carry potentially destructive amounts of energy, capable under certain circumstances of melting or cracking metal, over distances measured in hundreds or thousands of kilometres.
