More than 1,222 individuals of 150 species of birds of different ecological groups were surveyed. 146 species of live oribatid mites were collected in bird feathers. Feather Mites (Analgoidea: Pterolichidae) of the Hoatzin (Aves: Galliformes)

Drawings and micrographs are presented of the type species of two monotypic genera: Opisthocomacarus Dubinin, 1955 (type: Pterolichus (P.) umbellifer Trouessart, 1898) and Stakyonemus, n. g. (type: Pterolichus (P.) hystrix Trouessart, 1898). Probable adap- tive advantages are considered for the unique idiosomal chaetotaxy of both species.
