Detecting image primitives using feature pyramids

Information Sciences, 1998
Abstract Primitive image parts of arbitrary sizes can be detected and extracted efficiently using local operations in a multiscale (“pyramid”) representation of the image. This paper describes several new multiscale methods of detecting blob-like image parts, and also presents some initial results on the detection of ribbon-like image parts.

Attentional feature pyramid network for small object detection

Neural Networks, 2022
Recent state-of-the-art detectors generally exploit the Feature Pyramid Networks (FPN) due to its advantage of detecting objects at different scales. Despite significant advances in object detection owing to the design of feature pyramids, it is still challenging to detect small objects with low resolution and dense distribution in complex scenes.

Tripartite Feature Enhanced Pyramid Network for Dense Prediction

IEEE Transactions on Image Processing, 2023
Learning pyramidal feature representations is important for many dense prediction tasks (e.g., object detection, semantic segmentation) that demand multi-scale visual understanding. Feature Pyramid Network (FPN) is a well-known architecture for multi-scale feature learning, however, intrinsic weaknesses in feature extraction and fusion impede the ...

FI-FPN: Feature-integration feature pyramid network for object detection

AI Communications, 2023
The multi-layer feature pyramid structure, represented by FPN, is widely used in object detection. However, due to the aliasing effect brought by up-sampling, the current feature pyramid structure still has defects, such as loss of high-level feature information and weakening of low-level small object features. In this paper, we propose FI-FPN to solve

Pyramidal channel features for pedestrian detector

Proceedings of the 2015 Conference on research in adaptive and convergent systems, 2015
Most state-of-the-art pedestrian detectors diversify features to improve the detection performance. Among such features, the gradient histogram is the most informative. This work investigates how diverse orientation information influences the pedestrian detection performance.

Feature Pyramid Based Scene Text Detector

2017 14th IAPR International Conference on Document Analysis and Recognition (ICDAR), 2017
Features are critical for detecting texts in natural scene images. Nowadays most of scene text detection algorithm leverage powerful feature learning power of convolutional neural networks (CNNs) to learn discriminative features which could distinguish text from non-text well and perform detection based on these features. It is known that features from

Residual Dilation Based Feature Pyramid Network

2019 IEEE International Conference on Image Processing (ICIP), 2019
To address the issue of multi-scale detection, current detectors usually generate hierarchical feature pyramid by a naive combination of top-down features with lateral features. Due to the limited effective receptive fields in the top-down pathway, the generated regions are only associated with the neighbor regions of the coarse feature maps, which is ...

Feature Pyramid Fusion Network for Hyperspectral Pansharpening

IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning Systems
Hyperspectral (HS) pansharpening aims at fusing an observed HS image with a panchromatic (PAN) image, to produce an image with the high spectral resolution of the former and the high spatial resolution of the latter. Most of the existing convolutional neural networks (CNNs)-based pansharpening methods reconstruct the desired high-resolution image from ...

Prime feature extraction in pyramid network

Proceedings of ICNN'95 - International Conference on Neural Networks, 2002
A simple features extraction method for a connection weights fixed multi-layer feedforward pyramid network is proposed in this paper. Pyramid network development was biologically motivated, and an innovative pattern recognition strategy is follows which divides the mapping work into neural network and coordinate feature extraction and code matching ...
