Pictorial feature distortion in a pyramid

Computer Graphics and Image Processing, 1976
Recently, Pyramid data structures employing several levels of resolution have become popular as tools for facilitating the analysis of pictures. These pyramids are usually generated by taking averages over regions of a digitized picture. In this paper the distortion of pictorial features brought about by one such averaging transformation is ...

Extracting Linear Features from Images Using Pyramids

1980
Abstract : A method is described of extracting linear features from images. The approach is to construct a series of lower-resolution versions of the original image (a pyramid), and to look for lines in these images. A line in a low- resolution image corresponds to a thicker linear feature in a high-resolution image.
