Reduced fertilization regimes could boost biocontrol service without reducing crop yield

open access: yesInsect Science, EarlyView.
Fertilization level influences pest control effectiveness in tomato crops. High fertilization increases plant growth and aphid density but reduces the performance of the parasitoid Aphidius ervi. In contrast, the predator Adalia bipunctata maintains consistent aphid suppression regardless of fertilization regime.

Production of Gibberellic Acid by Multiple Fed-batch Cultivation of Gibberella fujikuroi

open access: yes, 2007
The growth of Gibberella fujikuroi and kinetics of gibberellic acid production was studied in a multiple fed-batch cultivation process at pH 5.0 and 30 °C. Application of four nutrient addition cycles of fed-batch mode of operation was used to extend the

Affordances, dread, and online fraud: Exploring and advancing social learning theory in online contexts

open access: yesCriminology, EarlyView.
Abstract We investigate how the affordances of an online context shape the processes of social learning. Using a dataset of more than 11,000 posts from the fraud subdread on the dark web forum Dread, we examine how affordances of platform governance, connectivity, anonymity, invisibility, asynchronicity, and limited oversight influence the components ...

Future projection of habitat suitability and potential distribution of main European cereal bugs using MaxEnt modelling

open access: yesAgricultural and Forest Entomology, EarlyView.
Global climate change will modify the distribution areas of important cereal bugs by changing environmental conditions. Information on their dispersal possibilities can help to clarify their future economic importance and damage potential. In this study, we modelled the current potential and future distribution of four important pests by using the ...

Limits to biomass productivity during fed-batch cultivation of Laminaria saccharina female gametophyte cells in a stirred-tank photobioreactor

open access: yes
This study compared the growth of Laminaria saccharina female gametophyte filamentous cell suspension cultures in a stirred-tank photobioreactor under batch and fed-batch nutrient addition modes over a 48-day cultivation period.

Fed-batch cultivation of Saccharomyces cerevisiae in a hyperbaric bioreactor

open access: yes, 2000
Fed-batch is the dominating mode of operation in high-cell-density cultures of Saccharomyces cerevisae in processes such as the production of baker's yeast and recombinant proteins, where the high oxygen demand of these cultures makes its supply an ...

Making Mining Licit: Gold, Commodification, and the Everyday Performance of Law in Colombia

open access: yesAmerican Anthropologist, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Ethnographies of resource‐making have shown that the extraction of resource value from objects is premised on obviating the emplaced lifeworlds that surrounded objects before they traveled to consumer markets. Much of this literature looks at such supply‐chain disentanglement from the viewpoint of corporate and formal regulatory practices ...

Adapting to Change: The Dynamic Crop Production Systems of Smallholder Farmers in the PNG Highlands

open access: yesAsia Pacific Viewpoint, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Smallholder sweet potato farmers in Papua New Guinea's Eastern Highlands Province (EHP) face challenges as they navigate social, economic, demographic, and environmental change. While they routinely adapt to weather variability and shifting markets, population growth is placing additional strain on an already finely balanced farming system ...
