PROFITABILITY OF ESTABLISHING BASIN WILDRYE FOR WINTER GRAZING [PDF]

open access: yes
This study examined the economic viability of establishing basin wildrye for winter grazing. Mixed integer-programming models were developed that minimized cow feed costs. Estimated basin wildrye establishment costs were $154 per acre.

Land sharing vs. land sparing for biodiversity: How agricultural markets make the difference : Working Paper N° TSE-435 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We show that between intensive and extensive farming, the production method most beneficial to biodiversity depends on the equilibrium of agricultural markets.

Photo‐Controlled Antibacterial Drug Release From DASA‐Coated Silica Particles for Improved Treatment of Wound Infections

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Synthesis and characterization of light‐responsive donor–acceptor Stenhouse adducts (DASA)‐coated chlorhexidine‐loaded silica nanoparticles. Such a controllable drug‐delivery system enables the release of the antimicrobial drug on demand and in consecutive cycles, thereby maintaining the concentration within the therapeutic window.

Grown organic matter as a fuel raw material resource [PDF]

open access: yes
An extensive search was made on biomass production from the standpoint of climatic zones, water, nutrients, costs and energy requirements for many species. No exotic species were uncovered that gave hope for a bonanza of biomass production under culture,

Variable protection against experimental broiler necrotic enteritis after immunisation with the C-terminal fragment of Clostridium perfringens alpha-toxin and a non-toxic NetB variant [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Necrotic enteritis toxin B (NetB) is a pore-forming toxin produced by Clostridium perfringens and has been shown to play a key role in avian necrotic enteritis (NE), a disease causing significant costs to the poultry production industry worldwide.

Photon Avalanching Nanoparticles: The Next Generation of Upconverting Nanomaterials?

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This Perspective outlines the mechanistic foundations that enable photon‐avalanche (PA) behavior in lanthanide nanomaterials and contrasts them with emerging application spaces and forward‐looking design strategies. By bridging threshold engineering, energy‐transfer dynamics, and materials engineering, we provide a coherent roadmap for advancing the ...

Research and Prospects of Enzymatic Hydrolysis and Microbial Fermentation Technologies in Protein Raw Materials for Aquatic Feed

open access: yesFermentation
Aquaculture relies heavily on formulated feed, with feed costs accounting for approximately 50% of the total production expenses. High-protein feed is expensive, and some raw materials are dependent on imports.

Novel cost-effective method of laparoscopic feeding-jejunostomy

open access: yesJournal of Minimal Access Surgery, 2009
A feeding jejunostomy tube placement is required for entral feeding in a variety of clinical scenarios. It offers an advantage over gastrostomies by eliminating the risk of aspiration. Standard described laparoscopic methods require special instrumentation and expensive custom-made tubes.
