Day/night variations of myeloid and lymphoid cell subsets in the murine inguinal lymph node

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The circadian system is involved in the temporal regulation of the immune system. Our study reveals that two innate immune populations, NKT cells and neutrophils, predominate at the beginning of the day in healthy mice, highlighting how the time of day influences immune responses.

Innovative Electrostatic Precipitator Solutions for Efficient Removal of Fine Particulate Matter: Enhancing Performance and Energy Efficiency

open access: yesMachines
The removal of particulate matter (PM) from air streams is essential for advancing environmental technologies and safeguarding public health. This study explores the performance of an electrostatic precipitator (ESP) in eliminating fine and ultra-fine PM

Feed Rate of a Rotary Feeder

open access: yesTransactions of the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers, 1978
The revolution characteristic of feed rate of a rotary feeder is examined theoretically and experimentally when back pressure is not applied to the feeder outlet. The revolution giving the maximum feed rate is dependent on the inlet dimension, the total volume of wheel rooms and the number of wheel rooms of the feeder and on the relaxation time of ...

Copepod feeding currents: flow patterns, filtration rates and energetics [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Biology, 2003
SUMMARY Particle image velocimetry was used to construct a quasi 3-dimensional image of the flow generated by the feeding appendages of the calanoid copepod Temora longicornis. By scanning layers of flow, detailed information was obtained on flow velocity and velocity gradients. The flow around feeding T.

Antibiofilm activity of a chionodracine‐derived peptide by NMR‐based metabolomics of cell‐free supernatant of Acinetobacter baumannii clinical strains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
KHS‐Cnd peptide is able to impair biofilm formation and disaggregate mature biofilms in Acinetobacter baumannii clinical isolates. Differences in extracellular metabolites reflect changes in biofilm metabolism due to KHS‐Cnd treatment. Among the differentially represented extracellular metabolites upon KHS‐Cnd treatment, the significantly altered ...

dUTPase is essential in zebrafish development and possesses several single‐nucleotide variants with pronounced structural and functional consequences

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
dUTPases are involved in balancing the appropriate nucleotide pools. We showed that dUTPase is essential for normal development in zebrafish. The different zebrafish genomes contain several single‐nucleotide variations (SNPs) of the dut gene. One of the dUTPase variants displayed drastically lower protein stability and catalytic efficiency as compared ...

A note on the effect of supplementation with microbial phytase and organic acids on feed intake and growth performance of growing pigs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
peer-reviewedThis experiment was designed to investigate the effects of supplementation with phytase, either alone or in combination with organic acids, on feed intake and growth of pigs from 8 to 89 kg live weight.

Microglial dynamics and ferroptosis induction in human iPSC‐derived neuron–astrocyte–microglia tri‐cultures

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
A tri‐culture of iPSC‐derived neurons, astrocytes, and microglia treated with ferroptosis inducers as an Induced ferroptosis model was characterized by scRNA‐seq, cell survival, and cytokine release assays. This analysis revealed diverse microglial transcriptomic changes, indicating that the system captures key aspects of the complex cellular ...
