High-Speed Cinematographic Evidence for Ultrafast Feeding in Antennariid Anglerfishes
Science, 1979Analyses by means of high-speed, light cinematography at 800 and 1000 frames per second have shown that members of the shallow-water anglerfish genus Antennarius are capable of producing an enormous suction pressure for prey capture by means of an extraordinarily rapid expansion of the buccal and opercular cavities.

Feed speeds in cutting silicious hardwoods by bandsaw
Holz als Roh- und Werkstoff, 1985A comparative assessment of different sawblade designs was undertaken to establish their relative potential in conversion of abrasive, silicious hardwoods. The feed speeds of an originally shaped fully modified sawblade tooth profile (E) were compared to those produced by the conventional (C) and improved, i. e.

New Feeding System for High Speed Assembly of Small Parts
CIRP Annals, 2000Abstract This paper presents the new general purpose automatic feeding system, developed for high speed assembly of small parts. The new design is a result of the consequently applied Axiomatic Design Theory. The feeding system is functionally uncoupled, leading to minimization of problems in system tuning, parts damage and noise emission.

Feed-forward and feed-back controller for large-range and high-speed AFM
Optics and Precision Engineering, 2011In order to expand the application scope of Atomic Force Microscopes(AFMs),a large-range and high-speed AFM was developed.A feed-forward and feed-back algorithm is proposed to deal with the Z-control of the AFM.The feed-forward controller includes an auto leveling controller and a last line based controller. The former determines the location of sample ...

A motor speed control system using dual-loop PLL and speed feed-forward/back
2010 IEEE International Conference on Mechatronics and Automation, 2010PLL speed control systems can completely reject speed error and steady-state phase error for constant-speed inputs. Though it does not usually handle inputs including acceleration, the dual-loop scheme improves, as a feed-forward control system, rising time and phase error for acceleration input. However, since it is fundamentally a third-order PLL, it

A speed of sound based feed water temperature sensor
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2013Controlling thermal power in the feed water line of a power plant presupposes both accurate flow and temperature measurement. In this application the temperature measurement is usually a single Pt-100. This results in a measurement error of several kelvin. In this study we have investigated two different sensors based on the speed of sound (SoS) in the

Precision Tracking Controller Design for High Speed Feed Drives
Dynamic Systems and Control, Parts A and B, 2005This paper investigates the effectiveness of adaptive sliding mode control (SMC) for precision tracking in high speed machine tool drives. Dynamics of the feed drive, comprising of rigid body motion, guideway friction and ball screw vibrations, are identified. Two strategies are developed.
