Identifying transcription factors controlling the basal expression of human MRP4 highlights a substantial role for Sp1

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The MRP4 transporter exports several drugs and signaling molecules. Here, we identified key promoter elements regulating basal MRP4 expression. Using reporter assays, we defined a conserved region with essential Sp1 and contributory Ets sites, which controlled basal MRP4 expression.

Linear Bandits with Feature Feedback

open access: yesProceedings of the AAAI Conference on Artificial Intelligence, 2020
This paper explores a new form of the linear bandit problem in which the algorithm receives the usual stochastic rewards as well as stochastic feedback about which features are relevant to the rewards, the latter feedback being the novel aspect. The focus of this paper is the development of new theory and algorithms for linear bandits with feature ...

A nonlinear optimal control approach for the pulping process of paper mills

open access: yesIET Collaborative Intelligent Manufacturing, 2021
The mechanical pulping process is non‐linear and multivariable. To solve the related control problem, the dynamic model of the pulping process undergoes first approximate linearization around a temporary operating point which is updated at each iteration

Validity of a Wearable Digital Insole for Assessing Gait ON and OFF in Parkinson's Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Gait impairment is a distinctive symptom of Parkinson's disease that negatively impact mobility. We assessed the validity of wearable digital insoles against a validated reference gait analysis system for measuring select gait characteristics in patients with Parkinson's disease. Methods A comparative analysis between digital insoles

Peripheral Neutrophil Activation and Extracellular Trap Formation in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
Markers of neutrophil activation are increased in plasma during ALS, and markers of NET formation associate with ALS survival. ABSTRACT Objectives Peripheral neutrophil levels in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) inversely correlate with survival, suggesting a role for neutrophils in disease progression.

Generalized Quadratic Linearization of Machine Models

open access: yesJournal of Control Science and Engineering, 2011
In the exact linearization of involutive nonlinear system models, the issue of singularity needs to be addressed in practical applications. The approximate linearization technique due to Krener, based on Taylor series expansion, apart from being ...
