A unified STR profiling system across multiple species with whole genome sequencing data

open access: yesBMC Bioinformatics, 2019
Background Short tandem repeats (STRs) serve as genetic markers in forensic scenes due to their high polymorphism in eukaryotic genomes. A variety of STRs profiling systems have been developed for species including human, dog, cat, cattle, etc ...

Yeast polysaccharide supplementation: impact on lactation, growth, immunity, and gut microbiota in Dezhou donkeys

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2023
IntroductionThe Dezhou donkey, a prominent Chinese breed, is known for its remarkable size, rapid growth, and resilience to tough feeding conditions, and disease resistance. These traits are crucial in meeting the growing demand for Ejiao and donkey meat.

Sham Feeding? Same Feeding? [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of Coloproctology, 2013
See Article on Page 248-251 Most patients who undergo abdominal surgery might experience a varying degree of postoperative paralytic ileus (PPI). Although most PPI is resolved spontaneously, 20-30% of PPI patients suffer from prolonged PPI. Prolonged PPI may not only delay a patients' recovery but also increase medical costs. The pathogenesis of PPI

In Vivo Imaging of Rabbit Follicles through Combining Ultrasound Bio-Microscopy and Intravital Window

open access: yesAnimals
Continuous ovarian imaging has been proven to be a method for monitoring the development of follicles in vivo. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of combining ultrasound bio-microscopy (UBM) with an intravital window for follicle imaging ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Feeding

open access: yes, 2010
Food intake is probably the most widely used dependent measure used in behavioral neuroscience. However, feeding behavior has a complex structure and is heavily influenced by environmental variables. These factors have to be understood before experiments

Cytokines and feeding [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Obesity, 1998
Cytokines inhibit feeding through peripheral and brain mechanisms. Behavioral, cellular, and molecular studies show that interactions among cytokines, neurotransmitters, and peptides and modulation of hypothalamic neurons are involved in cytokine-induced feeding inhibition.

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

Removal of leftover feed shapes environmental microbiota and limits houseflies-mediated dispersion of pathogenic bacteria in sow breeding farms

open access: yesAnimal Microbiome
Background Intensive swine breeding industry generates a complex environment where several microbial interactions occur and which constitutes a challenge for biosafety. Ad libitum feeding strategies and low levels of management contribute to residual and
