ABSTRACT This study shows an innovative approach to determine the origin of some Calabrian rocks quarried used in ancient times. Twenty‐five quarries, distributed in all the Calabrian provinces (Southern Italy), were studied and sampled. Ten samples were taken from each quarry, for a total of 250 samples.

MINERALOGY OF SOILS DEVELOPED ON TRIASSIC SEDIMENTS
Soils formed on eluvium of Triassic sediments and their derivatives are characterized by a sharp predominance of smectite group minerals with an admixture of palygorskite in the mud fraction and feldspars in dusty ones.

We summarize the current state of knowledge on the age of the Middle Pleistocene ice advances into northern central Europe and provide 25 new single‐grain feldspar luminescence ages of Elsterian and Saalian glacigenic sediments to constrain the age of the ice advances and their tentative correlation with marine isotope stages/substages.
