Feline herpesvirus 1, the causative agent of feline viral rhinotracheitis

open access: yes, 2007
Infectious respiratory diseases also called ‘cat flu’ are nowadays one of the most relevant areas of feline medicine. Epidemiologic surveys revealed that 80% of the cases are due to feline calicivirus and Felid herpesvirus 1 (FeHV-1). FeHV-1 is an alphaherpesvirus that has a worldwide distribution in cat population.

Prevalence of Feline Chlamydia psittaci and Feline Herpesvirus 1 in Cats with Upper Respiratory Tract Disease

open access: yesJournal of Veterinary Internal Medicine, 1999
Abstarct The epidemiology of feline chlamydiosis and feline herpesvirus 1 (FHV1) infection in cats was determined using a duplex polymerase chain reaction assay. In cats with upper respiratory tract disease (URTD), prevalences of 66 (14.3%) of 462 cats and 98 (21.2%) of 462 cats were found for Chlamydia psittaci and FHV1, respectively.

Detection of Protective Antibody Titers against Feline Panleukopenia Virus, Feline Herpesvirus-1, and Feline Calicivirus in Shelter Cats Using a Point-of-Care ELISA

open access: yes, 2011
Serum antibody titers are a useful measurement of protection against infection (feline panleukopenia virus [FPV]) or clinical disease (feline herpesvirus-1 [FHV] and feline calicivirus [FCV]), and their determination has been recommended as part of ...

Advances in the immunoescape mechanisms exploited by alphaherpesviruses

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology
Alphaherpesviruses, categorized as viruses with linear DNA composed of two complementary strands, can potentially to induce diseases in both humans and animals as pathogens. Mature viral particles comprise of a core, capsid, tegument, and envelope. While

Association of Bartonella species, feline calicivirus, and feline herpesvirus 1 infection with gingivostomatitis in cats

open access: yesJournal of Feline Medicine and Surgery, 2010
Feline gingivostomatitis (FGS) is a common syndrome in cats; feline calicivirus (FCV), feline herpesvirus 1 (FHV-1), and Bartonella species are common differential diagnoses. In this study, blood from 70 cats with FGS and 61 healthy control cats was tested for Bartonella species antibodies in serum by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and Western blot ...

Antibodies Against Feline Panleukopenia Virus, Herpesvirus and Calicivirus in Retrovirus-Seropositive Cats Compared to Retrovirus- Seronegative Cats

open access: yes, 2019
Purpose: To analyze antibody profiles in retrovirus-seronegative and seropositive cats after vaccination or field infection with feline panleukopenia virus (FPV), feline herpesvirus type 1 (FHV-1), and feline calicivirus (FCV).

Gazelle Herpesvirus 1: A New Neurotropic Herpesvirus Immunologically Related to Equine Herpesvirus 1

open access: yes, 1997
A herpesvirus was isolated from Thomson's gazelle (Gazella thomsoni) kept at a zoological garden in Japan during an outbreak of epizootic acute encephalitis. The virus, gazelle herpesvirus 1 (GHV-1), was serologically related to equine herpesvirus 1 (EHV-

Insight into the apoptosis mediated by feline herpesvirus (FeHV-1) on permissive cells

open access: yes, 2022
1.Introduction: Apoptosis, also known as programmed cell death, is a critical component of host defense mechanisms against viral infection, limiting viral replication and transmission.

Protective efficacy of inactivated FHV-1 vaccine in cats following challenge with the Chinese field strains

open access: yesFrontiers in Veterinary Science
Feline herpesvirus-1 (FHV-1) is a leading cause of feline viral rhinotracheitis (FVR), which mainly presents upper respiratory tract symptoms. Vaccination is the most effective strategy for controlling FHV-1.

Latent equine herpesvirus infections in horses

open access: yes, 2008
A significant characteristic of the herpesviruses is that they form latent infections in infected hosts, and can be reactivated to again induce lytic infections by stressors.
