We constructed a recombinant baculovirus expressing feline herpesvirus type I (FHV-1) gD in insect cells (Sf9 cells). The expressed product was identified as FHV-1 gD by a panel of monoclonal antibodies specific for the FHV-1 gD, and had an apparent molecular mass of approximately 49 kDa, which was less than that of the authentic FHV-1 gD. When the FHV-

Therapeutic perspectives for the treatment of feline herpesvirus type 1 infections
Clínica Veterinária, 2014Feline herpesvirus type 1 is a very common cause of upper respiratory tract disease among cats. The disease, known as feline viral rhinotracheitis, has high morbidity and it is self-limiting in healthy cats, but it causes severe clinical signs in kittens and immunocompromised animals.

We have previously reported the construction of a recombinant feline herpesvirus type 1 (FHV-1), designated C7301ddlTK-gag, expressing the Gag precursor protein of feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV). In this study, we report the construction of a further recombinant FHV-1 (ddlTK(gBp)-gag) which carries an FHV-1 gB promoter sequence upstream of the FIV

We constructed a deletion mutant of feline herpesvirus type 1 (FHV-1) and a recombinant FHV-1. The deletion mutant is the virus with a region (367 bp) deleted from the start codon of thymidine kinase (TK) gene to the SmaI site within the TK gene, and the other is a recombinant FHV-1 expressing Gag protein of feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV), in ...

Detection of neutralizing antibody to Feline herpesvirus type 1 in cat serum
Comparative Immunology, Microbiology and Infectious DiseasesFeline Herpesvirus-1 is a major pathogen that causes feline viral rhinotracheitis, pneumonia, and ocular diseases. This virus is transmitted through direct or indirect contact with secretions from infected cats. Approximately 80 % of infected cats establish lifelong latent infections, making FHV-1 a persistent and significant threat to feline health ...

Responses of cats to nasal vaccination with a live, modified feline herpesvirus type 1
Research in Veterinary Science, 1986Intranasal vaccination with a cold-adapted strain of feline herpesvirus type 1 (FHV-1) two days before challenge gave partial protection, and four days before challenge gave complete protection, against feline viral rhinotracheitis. Protection at this time appeared to be specific since vaccination with FHV-1 did not affect the disease caused by the ...

Expression and identification of the feline herpesvirus type 1 glycoprotein B (gp143/108)
Virus Research, 1995The gene for feline herpesvirus type 1 (FHV-1) glycoprotein B (gB) has been cloned into an expression vector, pRVSVneo, containing the long terminal repeat of Rous sarcoma virus and polyadenylation signal of SV40. This expression vector containing FHV-1 gB gene, pRVSVgBneo, was transfected into Crandell feline kidney (CRFK) cells which are susceptible ...

A novel genetic marker to differentiate feline herpesvirus type 1 field isolates
Veterinary Microbiology, 2005Five recent field isolates of feline herpesvirus type 1 (FHV-1) were compared by digestion with a restriction endonuclease, SalI or MluI. The SalI digestion showed a potentially useful difference in one isolate 00-035 that had an approximately 3.0 kbp fragment instead of a 2.6 kbp fragment in the other strains.

Persistent cutaneous ulcers associated with feline herpesvirus type 1 infection in a cheetah
Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, 1991Persistent cutaneous ulcers developed in a female cheetah cub after an episode of rhinotracheitis. When they were 3 weeks old, the cub and a male littermate developed mucopurulent oculonasal discharge consistent with feline herpesvirus type 1 infection (feline viral rhinotracheitis). The male cub was weaned and its lesions resolved.

Nucleotide Sequence and Characterization of the Feline Herpesvirus Type 1 Immediate Early Gene
Virology, 1994We report the nucleotide sequence of feline herpesvirus type 1 (FHV-1) immediate early (IE) gene encoding a homologue to the ICP4 protein of herpes simplex virus type 1 and its flanking sequences. When we examined the regulatory function of the FHV-1 IE gene product by using the transient transfection assay with an effector plasmid expressing the FHV-1
