Genetic Characterization of Feline Leukemia Virus from Florida Panthers
From 2002 through 2005, an outbreak of feline leukemia virus (FeLV) occurred in Florida panthers (Puma concolor coryi). Clinical signs included lymphadenopathy, anemia, septicemia, and weight loss; 5 panthers died.

Evolutionary Dynamics of Endogenous Feline Leukemia Virus in the Felis Genus Through the Lens of Genomics [PDF]
The endogenous form of Gammaretrovirus felleu (feline leukemia virus; enFeLV) modulates exogenous infections. Mining of felid genomes confirmed that enFeLV is restricted to the Felis genus. Sequence analysis indicates retention of transcriptional and integrational capacity in Felis catus and introgression in the Felis chaus germline.
