Electropneumatic Oscillators Using Nonlinear Inflatables

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
In animals, self‐oscillations are essential to coordinate locomotion and other bodily functions. By combining hysteretic membranes with a resistive strain sensor, an electropneumatic self‐oscillator with an oscillation frequency that directly depends upon geometric parameters in the fluidic domain is introduced.

A facile frequency tuning strategy to realize vibration‐based hybridized piezoelectric‐triboelectric nanogenerators

open access: yesEcoMat, Volume 5, Issue 1, January 2023., 2023
The cantilever's single vibration mode is found to turn into two relatively independent vibration modes as the 3D printed sheets are applied as extensions. Thus, a four‐cantilever coupling design based on hybridized piezoelectric‐triboelectric nanogenerators is developed with different extensions.

Elucidating the Role of Electric Fields in Fe Oxidation via an Environmental Atom Probe

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Field‐Assisted Fe Oxidation imaged by Environmental Atom Probe. The oxidation of iron (Fe) at the tip of a sharp needle under high electrostatic fields has been visualized using an Environmental Atom Probe (EAP) and corroborated through Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations and a mean‐field model applied to a multi‐faceted catalytic grain ...

Biomimetic Chemotactic Motion of Self‐Assembling Doublet Microrobots

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This article studies the shape‐dependent chemotaxis of different morphologies including self‐assembled doublet microswimmers that exhibit autonomous movement in hydrogen peroxide H2O2 gradients. Without the need for complex material preparation a novel type of chemotactic active matter is produced, which allows the separation of propulsion and cargo ...

Dynamic response characterization and simplified analysis methods for viscoelastic dampers considering heat transfer

open access: yesEarthquake Engineering &Structural Dynamics, Volume 52, Issue 1, Page 27-50, January 2023., 2023
Abstract Viscoelastic (VE) dampers are sensitive to temperature, excitation frequency, and strain level. As they dissipate the kinetic energy from earthquake or wind‐induced structural vibrations, their temperature increases from the heat generated, consequently softening their VE materials and lowering their dynamic mechanical properties.
