She dropped a distance of about ten feet, noted acute pain in her left hip, and was unable to walk. She was admitted to the local hospital and treated with Russell traction until her transfer here.

Bilateral fractures of the femoral neck
Injury, 1982This study has analysed 500 patients admitted with fractures of the femoral neck. Fifty-three (10.6 per cent) had previously fractured the opposite hip. Thirty-eight per cent had fractured the second side within 1 year of the original fracture, and 74 per cent had initially sustained an intracapsular lesion.

Fatigue Fracture of the Femoral Neck
The Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery, 1966Forty-one fatigue fractures of the femoral neck in thirty-six patients are presented and analyzed. All occurred in men undergoing the first eight weeks of basic infantry training (with an average age of twenty-two and one-half years). The right hip was involved in eighteen patients and the left in thirteen; five had bilateral fractures.
