Charts of fetal size: 4. Femur length
BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, 1994ABSTRACTObjective To construct a new size chart for fetal femur length.Design A prospective, cross sectional study of fetuses scanned once only for the purpose of the study at gestations between 12 and 42 weeks.Setting The routine ultrasound department of a London teaching hospital.Subject The fetuses of 663 women seen in the ...

Several ultrasonographic signs have been described in second-trimester Down's syndrome fetuses. Previously published reports have shown that fetuses affected with Down's syndrome have normal biparietal diameter (BPD), high BPD-to-femur length (FL) ratio, and low actual FL-to-expected FL ratio.

Does femur length affect the stride length? Forensic implications
Journal of Forensic Nursing, 2010All the long bones in the human body have a linear and positive relationship with stature. This principle has been used by forensic scientists and anthropologists to estimate stature in many kinds of medico-legal and forensic examinations. The present proposition states that the femur length may have a positive relationship with stride length.

Prediction of the neonatal crown–heel length from femur diaphysis length measurements
Journal of Clinical Ultrasound, 1994AbstractThe usefulness of the Rossavik growth model in predicting crown–heel length (CHL) was evaluated in 50 women with normal singleton pregnancies in a Dutch population. The femur diaphysis lengths (FDL) were predicted assuming growth cessation at 38, 39, 39.5, and 40 weeks, menstrual age (MA), and at birth using Rossavik growth models determined ...

The ultrasound femur length as a predictor of fetal length.
Obstetrics and gynecology, 1985A linear relationship between the ultrasound fetal femur length and the crown-heel length of the fetus is described. The formula for calculating the fetal length in centimeters was found to be 6.18 + 0.59 x femur length in millimeters. The value and potential uses of the calculated length of the fetus are discussed.

Growth patterns of the humeral and femur length in a multiethnic population
International Journal of Gynecology & Obstetrics, 1996AbstractObjectives: To study whether there are any differences in growth of the femoral and humeral length between the three major ethnic groups in Malaysia viz Malays, Chinese and Indians. The effect on fetal growth by gender of the baby and parity of the mother was also studied. Methods: The setting was the University Hospital, Kuala Lumpur.

[Significance of the length of the fetal femur].
Orvosi hetilap, 1995The importance of the examination of fetal skeletal system, especially the measurement of femur length must be emphasized during the routine ultrasound screening. A case of osteogenesis imperfecta is described, diagnosed on the 18th week of pregnancy by ultrasound.

Treatment of Leg Length Discrepancy by Subtrochanteric Shortening of the Femur
Journal of Pediatric Orthopaedics, 1990Shortening by subtrochanteric femoral osteotomy is a simple and safe method of equalization in mild cases of leg length discrepancy. A group of patients especially suited for this procedure are those whose congenital dislocation of the hip (CDH) has been treated by conservative methods, such as closed reduction and plaster fixation during ...

Ultrasonographic measurement of fetal femur length in growth disturbances
American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1989Ultrasonographic measurement of fetal femur length is a recognized technique for determination of gestational age and fetal growth. A total of 280 pregnant women were studied, each of whom had pathologies with the potential to either accelerate or delay fetal growth. There were 1000 measurements of the fetal femur length performed on these 280 fetuses.

Humerus and femur length shortening in the detection of Down's syndrome
American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1993Our purpose was to determine the utility of screening for humerus and femur length shortening in prenatal detection of Down's syndrome (trisomy 21).On the basis of the biparietal diameter, predicted humerus and femur lengths were derived from a sample control group of 350 karyotypically normal fetuses. The regression formulas were prospectively applied
