Global insular leaf size shifts follow the island rule, independently of insect herbivory and macroclimate

We found a positive, non‐linear, saturating relationship between mainland and island leaf sizes, reflecting an island rule‐like pattern. Small‐leaved mainland species tend to develop larger leaves on islands, while this effect weakens for larger‐leaved species, a pattern consistent across both conspecific and congeneric comparisons. A pan‐European citizen science study shows population size, climate and land use are related to biased morph ratios in the heterostylous plant Primula veris

A large‐scale citizen science study involving thousands of cowslip (Primula veris) observations from all over Europe revealed an unexpected prevalence of S‐morphs over L‐morphs, which was influenced by climatic as well as land use factors. Furthermore, general morph ratios were often unbalanced with the strongest shifts occurring in smaller populations.

Phylogenomics‐based click‐beetle classification tackles multiple origins of phenotypic modifications
