A Tale of Tail Loss: Fine‐Scale Landscape Composition Predicts Caudal Autotomy Along an Urban Gradient in Two Congeneric Lizards

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 7, July 2026.
Human‐modified landscapes can alter predator–prey interactions, but the spatial scale at which landscape features influence these interactions remains unclear. We examined variation in tail autotomy, a proxy for predation pressure, in two synanthropic lizards across urban gradients.

Coherent Forecasting of Realized Volatility

open access: yesJournal of Forecasting, Volume 45, Issue 4, Page 1714-1729, July 2026.
ABSTRACT The QLIKE loss function is the stylized favorite of the literature on volatility forecasting when it comes to out‐of‐sample evaluation and the state of the art model for realized volatility (RV) forecasting is the HAR model, which minimizes the squared error loss for in‐sample estimation of the parameters.

Proximity to bait and social interactions influence individual wild pig (Sus scrofa) visitation at bait sites

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, Volume 90, Issue 5, July 2026.
Individual wild pig bait site visitation and time to initial detection is primarily influenced by space use (i.e., proximity to bait) and whether wild pigs from other social groups visited before. Specifically, females are less likely to visit a bait site if an adult male visits a site before them.

Granulosa Cell Tumour in a Spayed Cat With Ovarian Remnant Syndrome and Hyperestrogenaemia Without Estrus Signs

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 12, Issue 4, July 2026.
Granulosa cell tumour arising from ovarian remnant tissue can occur in spayed cats without overt estrus signs, despite marked hyperestrogenaemia. In this case, CT showed a large abdominal mass contiguous with ovarian vasculature; surgery and histopathology confirmed granulosa cell tumour with hepatic metastasis.
