‘Let's Turn the Grass Into Meat’: Animal Husbandry as Women's Work in Cold War North Korea

open access: yesGender &History, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In postcolonial North Korea, the future of the nation was said to be a function of the feedlot. Unobtainable on the battlefields of the recently ended Korean War, liberation and unification of the peninsula became a question of competitive developmentalism.

Feasibility of use of total mixed ration feed containing fermented trembesi leaves

open access: yesBIS Health and Environmental Science
This study aims to determine the level of fermented trembesi leaves in the Total Mixed Ratio (TMR) ration that can be given to ruminants. This research will be carried out at the Animal Feed Science Laboratory, Department of Animal Feed Nutrition, Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Gadjah Mada University for 5 months, from June 2022 to November 2022.

Environmentally adjusted productivity growth and shadow prices for dairy farms

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Agricultural Economics/Revue canadienne d'agroeconomie, EarlyView.
Abstract We estimate the environmentally adjusted productivity growth and shadow price for Ontario dairy farms. We use an input‐oriented directional distance function and farm‐level data from 2000 to 2020. First, we find that while GHG emissions per cow increase with higher milk yields, emission intensity decreases as milk yield per cow increases.

In Vitro Fermentation and Degradation Characteristics of Rosemary Extract in Total Mixed Ration of Lactating Dairy Cows

open access: yesFermentation, 2022
Rosemary extract (RE) is characterized as an antioxidant, and it has the potential to reduce methane emission and change microbial fermentation. Hence, to the extent of the evaluation of RE in ruminant nutrition, the in vitro fermentation technique was used to investigate the effects of RE on the fermentation characteristics of a total mixed ration ...

Update on diagnosis, nonpharmacological treatment and prevention of Equine Gastric Ulcer Syndrome (EGUS)

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Education, EarlyView.
Summary The term Equine Gastric Ulcer Syndrome (EGUS) has been used since 1999. As there are important differences, the terms Equine Squamous Gastric Disease (ESGD) and Equine Glandular Gastric Disease (EGGD) were introduced in 2015. Risk factors like dietary management, training regimens and drug side effects, as described for NSAIDs, predispose ...

Preference and In Vitro Digestibility of Leaves of Woody Plants by Sheep in the Northern Sudanian Zone

open access: yesJournal of Animal Physiology and Animal Nutrition, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In West Africa, trees and shrubs are important for feeding ruminant livestock during the dry season. This study aimed to determine the in vitro digestibility of organic matter from eight woody species using a gas test with and without the addition of polyethylene glycol (PEG), and evaluate their preference by sheep using a cafeteria test ...
