In vitro and in vivo antioxidant potentials of Alchornea floribunda leaf extract, fractions and isolated bioactive compounds [PDF]

open access: yesAvicenna Journal of Phytomedicine, 2017
Objective: Alchornea floribunda leaves are widely used in ethnomedicine for the management of immuno-inflammatory disorders. We investigated the in vivo and in vitro antioxidant activity of the leaf extract, fractions and isolated compounds of A ...

Ferrous Pyrophosphate Hollow Nanorods Enable Lithium Metal Batteries Under Low Negative/Positive Capacity Ratios

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
N‐doped carbon‐coated ferrous pyrophosphate (Fe2P2O7@NC) hollow nanorods are rationally synthesized through a self‐template method. The Fe2P2O7@NC hollow nanorods facilitate uniform Li deposition as a Li host by generating LiF on the electrode/electrolyte interface, and form Li2O in the bulk phase of the electrode.

Potential Role for Extracellular Glutathione-Dependent Ferric Reductase in Utilization of Environmental and Host Ferric Compounds byHistoplasma capsulatum [PDF]

open access: yesInfection and Immunity, 2001
ABSTRACTThe mammalian host specifically limits iron duringHistoplasma capsulatuminfection, and fungal acquisition of iron is essential for productive infection.H. capsulatumexpresses several iron acquisition mechanisms under iron-limited conditions in vitro.

Escaping the Scaling Relationships in Oxygen Reduction Catalysis: Implications for PEM Fuel Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Escaping the scaling relationships of the oxygen reduction reaction is vital for hydrogen fuel cells. This outlook examines how interfacial heterogeneity, spanning the subsurface lattice, chemisorption layer, and near‐interface solvation volume, mechanistically decouples intermediate binding energetics.

Hydrophobic MFI‐Type Zeolites via Alkali‐Cation‐Induced Defect Healing: Implications for Adsorbent and Catalyst Design

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Sub‐stoichiometric amounts of Na+ or K+ enhance defect healing during Silicalite‐1 (MFI) and TS‐1 calcination by promoting Si–O–Si annealing and healing framework vacancies. The resulting defect‐free zeolites are more hydrophobic and show improved butanol/water separation and improved activity and selectivity in the epoxidation of 1‐hexene, offering a ...

Protein Corona Formation on Soft Nanocarriers Under Biomimetic Circulatory Flow

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
A biomimetic venous circulation system is developed to study protein corona formation on soft nanocarriers under physiological shear. Liposomes, PLGA nanoparticles, and lipid‐polymer hybrid nanoparticles acquire largely shared but material‐dependent protein coronas that alter surface properties and suppress cellular uptake, highlighting the importance ...
