Hypophosphataemia after treatment of iron deficiency with intravenous ferric carboxymaltose or iron isomaltoside—a systematic review and meta‐analysis

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, Volume 87, Issue 5, Page 2256-2273, May 2021., 2021
Aims Hypophosphataemia is an increasingly recognized side‐effect of ferric carboxymaltose (FCM) and possibly iron isomaltoside/ferric derisomaltose (IIM), which are used to treat iron deficiency. The aim of this study was to determine frequency, severity, duration and risk factors of incident hypophosphataemia after treatment with FCM and IIM.

Melt densities in the CaO-FeO-Fe2O3-SiO2 system and the compositional dependence of the partial molar volume of ferric iron in silicate melts [PDF]

open access: yes, 1988
The densities of 10 melts in the CaO-FeO-Fe2O3-SiO2 system were determined in equilibrium with air, in the temperature range of 1200 to 1550°C, using the double-bob Archimedean technique.

Overexpression of miR‐199/214 is a distinctive feature of iron‐induced and asbestos‐induced sarcomatoid mesothelioma in rats

open access: yesCancer Science, Volume 111, Issue 6, Page 2016-2027, June 2020., 2020
Malignant mesothelioma (MM) is one of the most lethal tumors. Its independent prognostic factors include younger age, female sex, epithelioid subtype and low clinical stage. Hierarchical clustering of miR expression profiles was impacted by the histological subtypes in rat MM.

Recurrent severe hypophosphatemia following intravenous iron administration

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 8, Issue 2, Page 243-246, February 2020., 2020
Hypophosphatemia postintravenous iron is frequent but under‐recognized. If prolonged or recurrent, it can cause osteomalacia. The likely mechanisms are direct toxicity to proximal tubular cells causing phosphate wasting, elevated Fibroblast growth factor‐23 (FGF‐23), and reduced 1,25‐dihydroxyvitamin D (1,25(OH)2D).

Involvement of iron-evoked oxidative stress in smoking-related endothelial dysfunction in healthy young men.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
BackgroundOxidative stress and smoking contribute to endothelial dysfunction. Iron might also play a role in oxidative stress generation and endothelial dysfunction.

Long‐Term Prognosis of Hyperferritinemia Induced by Intravenous Iron Therapy in Patients Undergoing Maintenance Hemodialysis: A 10‐Year, Single‐Center Study

open access: yesInternational Journal of Nephrology, Volume 2020, Issue 1, 2020., 2020
Optimal ferritin level in hemodialysis patients between Japan and other countries is controversial. Long‐term side effects of iron supplementation in these patients remain unclear. We aimed to elucidate whether past hyperferritinemia in hemodialysis patients was associated with high risk of death and cerebrovascular and cardiovascular diseases (CCVDs).

Iron Status and Analysis of Efficacy and Safety of Ferric Carboxymaltose Treatment in Patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Background and Aims:We analyzed iron deficiency and the therapeutic response following intravenous ferric carboxymaltose in a large single-center inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) cohort.

Associations Between Intravenous Iron, Inflammation and FGF23 in Non-Dialysis Patients with Chronic Kidney Disease Stages 3-5

open access: yesKidney & Blood Pressure Research, 2018
Background/Aims: Both iron deficiency and chronic inflammation are highly prevalent in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). The effect of intravenous iron infusion on mineral metabolism in CKD may be modified by inflammation.

Three cases of osteomalacia caused by intravenous administration of saccharated ferric oxide.

open access: yesOrthopedics & Traumatology, 1990
Three cases of osteomalacia caused by intravenous administration of saccharated ferric oxide were reported. Three cases were female with ages of 51, 55 and 61 years old. They received saccharated ferric oxide intravenouslly for anemia, just before having back pain, low back pain and hip joint pain due to osteomalacia.

The Ferric-superoxo Intermediate of the TxtE Nitration Pathway Resists Reduction, Facilitating Its Reaction with Nitric Oxide [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
TxtE is a cytochrome P450 (CYP) homolog that mediates the nitric oxide (NO)-dependent direct nitration of L-tryptophan (Trp) to form 4-nitro-L-tryptophan (4-NO2-Trp).
