A prospective, multicenter, randomized, sibling oocyte study was conducted with 86 couples to evaluate if a microfluidic sperm separation device improved ICSI sperm selection and subsequent cycle outcomes of fertilization, blastocyst utilization, ploidy,

Do Business Cycles Make Babies? The Effect of Business Cycle Fluctuations On Fertility [PDF]
Economic models often treat fertility as both constant and exogenous, while neither assumption is true. In this paper, I develop a Real Business Cycle model to analyze the impact of business cycle fluctuations on household fertility decisions.

Low fertility increases descendant socioeconomic position but reduces long-term fitness in a modern post-industrial society. [PDF]
Adaptive accounts of modern low human fertility argue that small family size maximizes the inheritance of socioeconomic resources across generations and may consequently increase long-term fitness.

Mitochondria contain two mitoribosome rescue factors, ICT1 and MTRFR (C12orf65). ICT1 also functions as a mitoribosomal protein in mice and humans, and its loss is lethal. Although Mtrfr knockout mice could not be generated, knockout zebrafish lines for ict1 and mtrfr were established.

#82 : Does Apoptotic Body Impair Pregnancy Outcome
Background: Morphologically suboptimal blastocyst is often associated with poorer pregnancy outcomes. Apoptotic body is one of the abnormal findings in blastocysts characterised by cellular shrinkage and a darker appearance.

In the blood–testis barrier, occludin is crucial for tight junctions. This study demonstrates that occludin‐targeting short peptides disrupt junction integrity, inducing immune cell infiltration, tumor necrosis factor‐α/interleukin‐6 secretion and mitochondrial dysfunction, ultimately triggering apoptosis.

Fertilization 2: Polyspermic Fertilization [PDF]
During fertilization in animals, a haploid egg nucleus fuses with a haploid sperm nucleus to restore the diploid genome. In most animals including mammals, echinoderms, and teleostei, the penetration of only one sperm into an egg is ensured at fertilization because the entry of two or more sperm is prevented by polyspermy block systems in these eggs ...
