Abstract Fertilization is the process by which sperm and oocyte recognize each other and fuse to form a zygote. Fertilization failure is a common issue encountered in ART. However, clinically, there is a lack of identification of the specific stage at which fertilization is arrested and the development of personalized improvement ...

The predictive value of idiopathic failure to fertilize on the first in vitro fertilization attempt
Fertility and Sterility, 1991To investigate the subsequent performance of patients with idiopathic fertilization failure on the first in vitro fertilization (IVF) cycle.A retrospective study of 2,322 consecutive patients undergoing their initial IVF cycle.Advanced infertility treatment in an IVF/general infertility clinic. In 5 years, 94 couples with unexplained failed oocyte ...

Failure to preserve fertility in patients with Hodgkin's disease
Cancer Chemotherapy and Pharmacology, 1987The hypothesis that the "down-regulated" gonad is less vulnerable to the effects of cytotoxic chemotherapy for advanced Hodgkin's disease has been investigated. Thirty men and eighteen women were randomly allocated to receive an agonist analogue of gonadotrophin-releasing hormone prior to, and for the duration of, cytotoxic chemotherapy.

The impact on fertility of contraceptive failure in China in the 1980s
Journal of Biosocial Science, 1995SummaryContraceptive failure was an important determinant of fertility in China in the 1980s. Based on the data from the China Two-per-Thousand Fertility Survey, this study shows that about 7% of the general fertility rate of currently married women aged 15–49 for a 12-month period is attributed to contraceptive failure, mainly due to the high failure ...

Cytologic investigation of human in vitro fertilization failures
Fertility and Sterility, 1985A cytogenetic study of unsuccessfully fertilized oocytes was done for information on the frequency and type of chromosomal abnormalities leading to preimplantation loss. Of 72 oocytes, 44 were assessed as mature, 19 as intermediate, and 9 as immature. The mean fertilization rate was 68%.

Defective sperm decondensation: a cause for fertilization failure
Andrologia, 2002The study aimed to evaluate the role of chromatin packaging (CMA3 staining), sperm morphology during sperm-zona binding, sperm decondensation and the presence of polar bodies in oocytes that failed in vitro fertilization (IVF). The percentage CMA3 staining categorized the data into three groups, < 44%, n = 10; > or = 44-59%, n = 10; and > or = 60%, n =

Fertility, Education, and Market Failures [PDF]
We show that coordination failures may be part of an explanation for the demographic differences between rich and poor countries and their differing attitudes towards the use of child labor. Our analysis is carried out within a two-period, general equilibrium model with endogenous fertility, parental investment in children's education and firms ...

Fertilization failure in IVF: why and what next?
Human Reproduction, 1990Among 297 couples who underwent 587 oocyte collection procedures, 95 (16%) total fertilization failures (FF) were observed. This frequency is similar in couples with either normal or only mildly deficient spermatozoa (16.2 and 13.7% respectively) but is almost doubled in cases of moderately and severely defective sperm (26.5%).

Cytogenetic analysis of in vitro fertilization (IVF) failures
Human Genetics, 1989Cytogenetic studies were carried out on 150 oocytes obtained in a human in vitro fertilization (IVF) program. Although all cells lacked signs of fertilization at light microscopy, 46 (30.7%) appeared to show cytological evidence of fertilization.
