Data on the significance of fetal arrhythmia
American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1967Fetal arrhythrnia as an indication, of fetal distress is judged rather diversely in articles in the obstetric literature. In 5 patients in whom premature beat and arrhythmia were observed, we made a continuous recording of FHR and fetal acid-base balance.

The majority of referrals for fetal arrhythmias represent benign atrial premature beats. However, a small number of fetuses might have life-threatening conditions associated with bradycardia or tachycardia. Fetal echocardiography is essential to establish the diagnosis. Transplacental treatment is most often used to prevent heart failure.

Recognition of fetal arrhythmias by echocardiography
Journal of Clinical Ultrasound, 1985AbstractFetal arrhythmias were detected in 33/198 high risk pregnancies from 21 weeks to term. Using the two‐dimensional echocardiographic image of the fetal heart as a guide, the M‐mode beam was directed to define the motion of the ventricular and atrial walls and atrioventricular valve or semilunar valves. Atrial contraction was defined either by the

MANAGEMENT OF FETAL CARDIAC ARRHYTHMIAS
Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinics of North America, 1997While most fetal cardiac arrhythmias are benign in nature, some may be dangerous and require prenatal treatment. This article reviews the differential diagnoses of fetal tachycardias and bradycardias, as well as treatment and management approaches.

Our present knowledge of fetal arrhythmias is described with reference to the literature and to the authors' personal experience. Most types of arrhythmia are harmless. Fetal tachyarrhythmias are of clinical importance, because of the danger of fetal cardiac insufficiency, and atrioventricular blocks because they are closely associated with infantile ...

Fetal arrhythmias, pediatric arrhythmias, and pediatric electrophysiology
Current Opinion in Cardiology, 1995The practice of pediatric electrophysiology has been altered drastically and irrevocably over the past 5 years. With the advent of widespread application of transcatheter radiofrequency ablative techniques in young patients, decision-making in the management of childhood arrhythmias has focused less on palliative medical therapies and more on the ...

Magnetocardiography in the diagnosis of fetal arrhythmias
Heart Rhythm, 2013In 1899, Wenckebach described the phenomenon that bears his name. His initial observation was in a 40-year-old patient “with nervous temperament” who had an irregular pulse, in whom he worked out the mathematical relationship between atrial and ventricular activity. Often forgotten is the fact that Wenckebach accomplished this feat before the advent of

Fetal arrhythmias: diagnosis and treatment
The Journal of Maternal-Fetal & Neonatal Medicine, 2019Fetal arrhythmias are common, and they may resolve spontaneously in majority of the cases. Sustained fetal arrhythmias associated with major structural heart disorders, hydrops fetalis, and fetal heart failure warrant intrauterine pharmaceutical conversion of heart rhythm or early pacemaker implant in order to avoid fetal demise.
