Incorporation of Selenium into Sol–Gel‐Derived Bioactive Glass: Influence on Glass Structure, Bioactivity, and its Selective Cytotoxicity

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Selenium was incorporated into a sol–gel‐derived bioactive glass to enable sustained therapeutic ion release. The selenium‐containing glass preserved bioactivity while selectively inducing cytotoxicity in osteosarcoma cells and maintaining osteoblastic viability.

Pathomorphological pecularities of the structure of the fetus ovaries from the mothers with placental dysfunction

open access: yesZaporožskij Medicinskij Žurnal, 2014
Aim. Placental dysfunction not only leads to fetus adaptive responses, but also causes pathological changes in fetal tissues and organs. In order to identify the pathological features of the structure ovaries of the 22 dead fetuses in utero were studied.

Direct Metal Deposition of Graphene–Ti28Nb35.4Zr Matrix Composites With Enhanced Mechanical, Corrosion, and Biocompatibility Properties for Bone Implants

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Graphene nanoplatelet (0.1 wt.%) reinforcement significantly enhances the performance of β Ti‐28Nb‐35.4Zr alloy. Grain refinement, reduced water contact angle, and improved surface characteristics promote osteoblast adhesion and complete surface coverage after 7 days.

Small size, big problems: insights and difficulties in prenatal diagnosis of fetal microcephaly

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroscience
Microcephaly is a sign, not a diagnosis. Its incidence varies widely due to the differences in the definition and the population being studied. It is strongly related to neurodevelopmental disorders.
