Fetal and neonatal hypoxia is viewed as one of the major causes of the developmental disturbances of the brain. Shortterm intranatal hypoxia and its difference from antenatal fetal hypoxia are also considered. The combination of ante- and intranatal hypoxia worsens the prognosis considerably.

[Maternal diabetes and fetal hypoxia].

Fetal deaths are five times and neonatal deaths three times higher compared with the general population. Chronic intrauterine hypoxia caused by maternal diabetes is the most likely cause of stillbirths during the last weeks of pregnancy.

MATERNAL SICKLE CELL TRAIT AND FETAL HYPOXIA
American Journal of Perinatology, 2000Patients with sickle cell trait (SCT) usually run a benign course. But they may develop vaso-occlusive crisis, which may lead to hypoxia. During these episodes, pregnant women with SCT may effect the developing fetus. This report describes an interesting finding of subtle degree of fetal hypoxia associated with maternal SCT.
