Decreasing trend of gastroschisis prevalence in the United States from 2014 through 2022: Is attributed to declining birth rates in young, high-risk gravidae

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Reproductive Biology: X
Objectives: To investigate the prevalence trend of gastroschisis in the United States between 2014 and 2022. Methods: A cross-sectional retrospective analysis of the Centers for the United States live births between 2014 and 2022.

Maternal and obstetric complications in fetal surgery for prenatal myelomeningocele repair: a systematic review.

open access: yesNeurosurgical Focus, 2019
OBJECTIVE Comparing prenatal and postnatal surgical repair techniques for myelomeningocele (MMC), in utero fetal surgery has increasingly gained acceptance and is considered by many specialized centers the first choice of treatment. Despite its benefits,

Adaptaquin is selectively toxic to glioma stem cells through disruption of iron and cholesterol metabolism

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Adaptaquin selectively kills glioma stem cells while sparing differentiated brain cells. Transcriptomic and proteomic analyses show Adaptaquin disrupts iron and cholesterol homeostasis, with iron chelation amplifying cytotoxicity via cholesterol depletion, mitochondrial dysfunction, and elevated reactive oxygen species.

Glycosylated LGALS3BP is highly secreted by bladder cancer cells and represents a novel urinary disease biomarker

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Urinary LGALS3BP is elevated in bladder cancer patients compared to healthy controls as detected by the 1959 antibody–based ELISA. The antibody shows enhanced reactivity to the high‐mannose glycosylated variant secreted by cancer cells treated with kifunensine (KIF).

Maternal outcomes following prenatal spina bifida repair: A systematic review and meta‐analysis

open access: yesPregnancy
Objective Prenatal surgical interventions for neural tube defects have been shown to improve fetal outcomes but are associated with previously poorly quantified maternal risk, which is inherently dependent on the surgical approach used.

Spina Bifida: A Review of the Genetics, Pathophysiology and Emerging Cellular Therapies

open access: yesJournal of Developmental Biology, 2022
Spina bifida is the most common congenital defect of the central nervous system which can portend lifelong disability to those afflicted. While the complete underpinnings of this disease are yet to be fully understood, there have been great advances in ...

Cytoplasmic p21 promotes stemness of colon cancer cells via activation of the NFκB pathway

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytoplasmic p21 promotes colorectal cancer stem cell (CSC) features by destabilizing the NFκB–IκB complex, activating NFκB signaling, and upregulating BCL‐xL and COX2. In contrast to nuclear p21, cytoplasmic p21 enhances spheroid formation and stemness transcription factor CD133.

Spinal cord untethering after fetal myelomeningocele repair

open access: yesArchives of Pediatric Neurosurgery, 2021
The incidence of tethered cord syndrome after myelomenigocele (MMC) repair is higher in patients undergoing in utero than postnatally. However, a paucity of studies have described the details of untethering in children which MMC was corrected during ...

Molecular characterisation of human penile carcinoma and generation of paired epithelial primary cell lines

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Generation of two normal and tumour (cancerous) paired human cell lines using an established tissue culture technique and their characterisation is described. Cell lines were characterised at cellular, protein, chromosome and gene expression levels and for HPV status.
