Few-Mode Fiber Devices

Optical Fiber Sensors, 1988
Few-mode fibers provide a number of independent channels in a single strand of optical fiber. Therefore they have potential for increasing channel capacity and data throughput, stabilizing coherent systems, simplifying and miniaturizing fiber optic circuits, and multiplying the number of functions and operations which can be performed.

Investigation of nonlinear effects in few-mode fibers

Photonic Network Communications, 2015
In this work, nonlinear optical effects are exploited for future implementations of space-division multiplexing fiber systems. The paper first presents the fundamentals of intermodal nonlinear phenomena over few-mode fibers, such as cross-phase modulation, four-wave mixing (FWM), stimulated Brillouin scattering and stimulated Raman scattering.

Recent Progress on Multi-Core Fiber and Few-Mode Fiber

Optical Fiber Communication Conference/National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference 2013, 2013
This paper reviews research activities concerning multi-core fiber, few-mode fiber and few-mode multi-core fiber. The characteristic of the 12-core fiber that was used for the first 1-Pb/s/fiber transmission experiments is presented.

Investigation of the nonlinearity in few mode fibers

2014 13th International Conference on Optical Communications and Networks (ICOCN), 2014
Nonlinear effects in few-mode fibers (FMF) have been explored in the early years of optical communication. Due to the development of space-division multiplexing (SDM) technology for fiber transmission in FMF, the nonlinearity in FMF has attracted significant research interests recently.

Few-Mode Fibers for Space Division Multiplexing

Optical Fiber Communication Conference, 2016
Mode Division Multiplexing: potential high number of usable spatial modes and strong mode overlapping (high spatial density and efficient pumping for amplification) FMFs for WEAKLY-COUPLED MDM 4-LP-mode Fibers have been reported, 7-LP-mode Fibers (capacity increase of a factor of 12) seem feasible Main limitations are Aeff, Attenuation and XT: new ...

Rigorous study of supercontinuum generation in few mode fibers

Applied Optics, 2016
We numerically studied supercontinuum (SC) generation in a few-mode photonic crystal fiber (PCF). We have shown the impact of the intermodal nonlinear effects that could limit the fundamental mode nonlinear propagation due to the coupling induced by high-order optical modes.

Few-Mode Energy-Managed Soliton Fiber Laser

2025 Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics Europe & European Quantum Electronics Conference (CLEO/Europe-EQEC)
We present an all-anomalous mode-locked laser architecture combining a few-mode gain fiber with single-mode passive fibers. This hybrid fiber laser generates high-energy pulses whose features are controlled by an intracavity spectral filter. Using a 1.7-nm filter bandwidth, the laser delivers 2.5-ps pulses of 39-nJ energy and 15.6-kW peak power ...
