Few-mode elastomeric optical fibers

open access: yesOptical Materials Express, 2021
We present a new approach for producing elastomeric optical fibers with an optical behaviour corresponding to a few-mode optical fiber. Different fibers have been produced by first fabricating thermoplastic polyurethane preforms and subsequently drawing them.

Chromatic Dispersion Measurements of Single-Mode Fibers, Polarization-Maintaining Fibers, and Few-Mode Fibers Using a Frequency Domain Method

open access: yesPhotonics, 2023
Chromatic dispersion is an important fiber attribute affecting transmission performance over optical fibers. Various chromatic dispersion measurement methods have been developed primarily for single-mode fibers.

In-line reflected fiber sensor for simultaneous measurement of temperature and liquid level based on tapered few-mode fiber.

open access: yesOptics Express, 2022
An in-line reflective dual-parameters fiber-optic sensor is proposed in this work, whereas it is experimentally verified by measuring both the liquid level and the local temperature distribution simultaneously. The proposed sensor configuration comprises

Experimental Dataset of Tunable Mode Converter Based on Long-Period Fiber Gratings Written in Few-Mode Fiber: Impacts of Thermal, Wavelength, and Polarization Variations

open access: yesData, 2023
Mode division multiplexing (MDM) is currently one of the most attractive multiplexing techniques in optical communications, as it allows for an increase in the number of channels available for data transmission.

Efficient mode coupling between a few-mode fiber and multi-mode photonic chip with low crosstalk.

open access: yesOptics Express, 2022
The mode-division multiplexing technology has been developing slowly in the field of fiber-chip-fiber optical interconnects, mainly limited by the inefficient mode coupling between few-mode fiber and multi-mode photonic chip. Here we propose and design a

M2 factor for evaluating fiber lasers from large mode area few-mode fibers

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics, 2023
Evaluating the laser quality accurately is one of the most important and fundamental physical issues for laser sources, and the beam quality of lasers from the large mode area few-mode fibers have been haunted by the presence of high order mode for many ...

Gain Equalization for Few-Mode Erbium-Doped Fiber Amplifiers via Strong Mode Coupling

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2022
Few-mode erbium-doped fiber amplifiers (FM-EDFAs) are one of the most important optical subsystems for successful space division multiplexed transmission systems.

Few-Mode Lensed Fibers

open access: yesJournal of Lightwave Technology, 2018
Few-mode lensed fiber for focusing multiple spatial modes with minimal distortion are proposed and investigated numerically and experimentally, for the first time to the best of the authors’ knowledge. Although the conventional hyperbolic lens profile works effectively for the fundamental mode, it introduces severe distortion for high-order radial ...

Intrinsic loss of few-mode fibers

open access: yesOptics Express, 2018
We summarize theoretical formulae for determining the intrinsic loss of few-mode fibers and compare intrinsic losses among step-index and parabolic graded-index few-mode fibers (FMF) with different dopants, and with single-mode fibers (SMF). The low-loss characteristics of pure-silica-core FMFs, in comparison with SMFs, give rise to additional ...

All Few-mode Fiber Spatiotemporal Mode-Locked Figure-eight Laser

open access: yesJournal of Lightwave Technology, 2021
Spatiotemporal mode-locked (STML) fiber lasers attract great interest owing to their distinctive spatiotemporal characteristics and potential to generate high-energy pulse.
