Tip-tilt system characterization as a tool for fiber coupling efficiency estimation
Imaging and Applied Optics Congress, 2020The measured fiber coupling efficiency (FCE) in atmospheric laser communication is not fully explored. We experimentally study the FCE for tip-tilt aberrations. Finally, we explain the FCE with the tip-tilt phase response.

Fiber-coupling Efficiency for Satellite-to-ground Laser Links with Angle-of-arrival Fluctuations
2019 IEEE 19th International Conference on Communication Technology (ICCT), 2019In a satellite-to-ground laser communication system, the presence of atmospheric turbulence and residual angle of arrival fluctuations limit the efficiency with which the propagating beam is coupled into a single-mode fiber. Considering the influence of atmospheric turbulence and residual jitter of angle of arrive, the expression of mean-coupling ...

Transverse modes under external feedback and fiber coupling efficiencies of VCSEL's
IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 1998We report a detailed study on the transverse mode behavior of vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSEL's) under strong external feedback. Backreflections from a glass facet result, periodically depending on the feedback phase, in variations of the transverse mode pattern of strongly index guided multitransverse-mode-emitting lasers.

Statistical distribution of fiber-coupling efficiency in the satellite-to-ground downlink
Optical Engineering, 2011In the satellite-to-ground downlink lasercom systems, efficient coupling of atmospherically distorted spatial light into single-mode fibers is a key technology for fiber-coupled optical receiver. Statistical distribution of fiber-coupling efficiency is important to analyze the performance of a receiver.

Reflective-refractive microlens for efficient LED-to-fiber coupling
2005We propose a microlens for improving the coupling efficiency etween a Lambertian emitter and an optical fiber with small numerical aperture. The nonimaging tens uses refraction in the central part for light rays emitted at small angles, and reflection in the peripheral part for rays emitted at large angles.

Vertically-bent silicon waveguide for high-efficiency optical fiber coupling
Silicon Photonics: From Fundamental Research to Manufacturing, 2018In silicon photonics, optical coupling between optical fibers and silicon photonics chips still remains a big issue to be improved. Recently we have developed a new surface coupler consisting of a vertically-bent silicon waveguide using ion implantation as a bending method.

Analysis on the laser diode-multimode fiber coupling efficiency
2010A novel screwdriver-like shaping system for the coupling between high-power laser diode and multimode fiber (MMF) is presented. The effect of cutting angle, cutting depth and coupling distance between laser diode and screwdriver-like fiber on the coupling efficiency is analyzed in detail. A method for coupling efficiency calculating is provided.

Microlens Fabrication Technique For An Efficient Laser/Single-Mode Fiber Coupling
SPIE Proceedings, 1987In this paper we describe a new fiber lensing technique in which an index-matched microlens is fabricated on the tip of a single-mode fiber. The lens is formed by etching the fiber until only a "whisker" of pure core material remains. This whisker then is cut and arc melted back to form a lens of proper radius for optimal laser-to-single-mode fiber ...
