Slight Truncation Changes in Iron Oxide Nanocubes Strongly Affect Their Magnetic Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Subtle variations in nanoparticle morphology can lead to significant changes in functional properties. An automated shape‐fitting method captures minor differences in corner truncation between iron oxide nanocubes of similar sizes synthesized under identical conditions, revealing pronounced disparities in their magnetic and hyperthermia behavior ...

UV generation in a pure-silica holey fiber [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
We report supercontinuum generation extending to 300nm in the UV from a pure-silica holey fiber. The broad spectrum was obtained by launching ultra-short pulses (~150fs, 10nJ at 820nm) from an amplified Ti:sapphire laser.

IN4MER Biomaterial Ink: A Phosphorescent Biosensing Biomaterial Ink for Multiple Analytes (Glucose, Lactate, Oxygen) Measurements and Temperature Sensing Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Multianalyte, real‐time monitoring of bioprinted scaffolds remains challenging. Phosphorescence‐lifetime–based, optically responsive microparticles are embedded in diverse printable hydrogels (κ‐carrageenan, GelMA, PEGDA) to form biomaterial inks that report oxygen, glucose, lactate, and temperature.

Investigation of coupling efficiency of optical fiber microlens / Suhaila Bahari [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The project investigates the effective ways for coupling optical fiber to a laser diode. The study was very important in improving coupling efficiencies by using fiber microlens and the way to produce microlens.

High coupling efficiency technology of large core hollow-core fiber with single mode fiber.

open access: yesOptics Express, 2019
With the research of hollow-core fiber with large core diameter, the coupling efficiency from hollow-core fiber with large core diameter to single-mode fiber is difficult to increase through the traditional technology, we proposed a novel coupling method

Strain‐Programmable Luminescent Adhesive Patch With Tartrazine‐Mediated Optical Skin Clearing for Photochemical Tissue Bonding

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We propose a suture‐complementary approach that integrates optical skin clearing with a strain‐programmable luminescent adhesive patch. Hyaluronic acid promotes transdermal delivery of tartrazine to improve optical clearing and stabilizes its interaction with a photosensitizer. Optical clearing increases the penetration depth of visible light into skin,

Numerical study of particle capture efficiency in fibrous filter

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2017
Numerical simulations are performed for transport and deposition of particles over a fixed obstacle in a fluid flow. The effect of particle size and Stokes number on the particle capture efficiency is investigated using two methods.

Efficient and robust fiber coupling of superconducting single photon detectors

open access: yes, 2011
We applied a recently developed fiber coupling technique to superconducting single photon detectors (SSPDs). As the detector area of SSPDs has to be kept as small as possible, coupling to an optical fiber has been either inefficient or unreliable. Etching through the silicon substrate allows fabrication of a circularly shaped chip which self aligns to ...

Optoelectronic Synaptic Devices Using Molecular Telluride Phase‐Change Inks for Three‐Factor Learning

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Optoelectronic synaptic devices based on solution‐processed molecular telluride GST‐225 phase‐change inks are demonstrated for three‐factor learning. A global optical signal broadcast through a silicon waveguide induces non‐volatile conductance updates exclusively in locally electrically flagged memristors.
