Receptor‐Free Identification of Toxic Gases Enabled by Hygroscopic Aqueous Salt Films

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Water as a gas sensor coating sounds impossible—until it stops evaporating. Here, hygroscopic salt solutions (LiCl, LiBr, H3PO4) form non‐drying aqueous films on CNT chemiresistors under ambient air. Gases partition into these liquid layers, sometimes transforming into water, and generate salt‐specific resistance fingerprints across a four‐channel ...

Efficient dynamic free-space-to-fiber coupling of cylindrical vector beams via twisted moiré meta-devices

open access: yesCommunications Physics
Efficient free-space-to-fiber coupling of cylindrical vector beams (CVBs) is critical for long-haul communication and network node access with mode-division multiplexing.

Fiber-coupled single ion as an efficient quantum light source

open access: yes, 2011
We have realized a compact system to efficiently couple the fluorescent light emitted by a single trapped ion to two opposing optical fibers. The fibers are tightly integrated in the center electrodes of a miniature endcap trap. They capture light from the ion with a numerical aperture of 0.34 each, corresponding to 6% of the solid angle in total.

Multimodal Soft Surgical Robots Enabled by Eco‐Degradable, Sterilizable Polymers and Transient Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A compostable PGS soft surgical robot with interchangeable modules integrates transient Mo tactile and Si thermal sensors for dual feedback. The device preserves its function after clinical‐grade sterilization, demonstrates stable actuation and cardiac tissue grasping with real‐time in vivo pulsatile monitoring, and biodegrades post‐use with soil‐safe,

Theoretical Study on the Butt-coupling of Semiconductor Laser and Fiber Bragg Grating

open access: yes, 2005
The butt-coupling between a semiconductor laser diode and a fiber Bragg grating external cavity acts a key roll on the laser characteristics. The scatter matrix method considering the butt-coupling efficiency is used to analyze the butt-coupling between ...

A compact two-dimensional grating coupler used as a polarization splitter

open access: yes, 2003
We demonstrate a novel polarization splitter based on a two-dimensional grating etched in a silicon-on-insulator waveguide. The device couples orthogonal modes from a single-mode optical fiber into identical modes of two planar ridge waveguides.

Speckle‐Engineered Upconversion Amplification in Nanoemulsion‐Templated Hydrogel Microdomes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Nanoemulsion‐confined PEGDA microdomes generate speckle‐like excitation fields that strongly amplify upconversion luminescence upon dehydration, enabling filter‐free visible readout with reversible on–off switching. DMD‐based lithography yields scalable, shape‐programmable arrays for moisture‐responsive displays and optical encryption.

Data for: Coupling efficiency of a partially coherent collimating laser from turbulent biological tissue to fiber

open access: yes, 2019
In this work, we propose a model of the fiber coupling efficiency for a partially coherent collimating laser beam propagating through turbulent biological tissue to fiber.
