Multi-dimensional fiber-optic radiation sensor for ocular proton therapy dosimetry

Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors and Associated Equipment, 2012
Abstract In this study, we fabricated a multi-dimensional fiber-optic radiation sensor, which consists of organic scintillators, plastic optical fibers and a water phantom with a polymethyl methacrylate structure for the ocular proton therapy dosimetry.

An Introduction to Radiation Effects on Optical Components and Fiber Optic Sensors

2007
We review the effects of ionizing radiation on various types of optical components including optical fiber sensors and summarize some of their applications in particular environments where the presence of energetic radiation is a concern.

Fiber-optic thermometry using thermal radiation from Tm end doped SiO2 fiber sensor

Review of Scientific Instruments, 2014
Fiber-optic thermometry based on temperature dependence of thermal radiation from Tm3+ ions was studied using Tm end doped SiO2 fiber sensor. Visible light radiation peaks due to f-f transition of Tm3+ ion were clearly observed at λ = 690 and 790 nm from Tm end doped SiO2 fibers sensor at the temperature above 600 °C.

Determination of the energy of ionizing radiation using fiber-optic sensors

12th International Conference on Optical Fiber Sensors, 1997
During radiation therapy the dose distribution in the patients body depends on type and energy of the applied ionizing radiation. Therefore the determination of the energy or energy distribution of this radiation is important with regard to the quality assurance in radiation therapy. On the basis of an attenuation based fiber-optic dosimeter system for

Study of a compact radiation source for fiber-optic interferometric phase sensors

Journal of Optical Technology, 2015
This paper discusses the optical and electrical characteristics of the RayCan RC32 laser diode, with a vertical cavity that emits at a wavelength of 1550 nm, as a function of various operating regimes. The possibility of using laser diodes with a vertical cavity in fiber-optic interferometric phase sensors is considered.

Dual type fiber-optic radiation sensor for measuring alpha and beta particles

SPIE Proceedings, 2017
In this study, we fabricated a dual type fiber-optic radiation sensor (DFORS) system using a spectroscopic technique to measure alpha and beta particles simultaneously and separately. The DFORS is composed of a sensing probe, a plastic optical fiber (POF), a photomultiplier tube (PMT)-amplifier system, and a multichannel analyzer (MCA).

Measurement of Therapeutic Proton Beam Using a Fiber-Optic Cerenkov Radiation Sensor

Advanced Materials Research, 2014
Tumor therapy using the high-energy radiation has evolved over the decades as typical non-invasive treatment method due to its advantage compared with surgery. But, the radiotherapy can damage or destroy normal cells as well as destroying tumor cells and cause side effects of treatment.

Feasibility study on remote gamma spectroscopy system with fiber-optic radiation sensor

Journal of Radioanalytical and Nuclear Chemistry, 2018
In this study, we developed a remote gamma spectroscopy system based on fiber-optic radiation sensor (FORS) to detect species of gamma-emitting sources at large distances. In order to evaluate the performance of the gamma spectroscopy system, we measured the scintillating light intensity and gamma energy spectra as a function of the length of the ...
