The investigation results on phase optical sensors are presented. Phaseacoustic sensitivity of two- and three-layered (w-type) fibers with various polimeric jackets as well as without any coatings has been measured. To provide a rapid and reliable measurement of the phaseacoustic sensitivity of fibers it is suggested that a wideband acoustic noise ...

Fiber-optic microbend sensor structure
Optics Letters, 1997We proposed and experimentally investigated a novel microbend sensor structure. The structure is composed of single-mode leads and multimode sensing fiber. The proposed structure exhibited a level of sensitivity as much as six times higher than that of the classical microbend sensor configuration when the same sensing fiber was used.

The theory, construction and performance of a catheter tip optical PCO2 probe is described. The sensor, called the Opticap, is made with plastic fiber optics. One fiber carries light to the sensitive tip which is a silicone rubber tube 0.6 mm dia. X 1.0 mm long filled with a phenol red-KHCO3 solution.

Brillouin fiber optic current sensor
Optical Review, 1996A novel reciprocal Brillouin fiber optic current sensor has been developed and tested. The sensor shows a sensitivity of 126 Hz/A that is very close to the maximum sensitivity obtained by using fibers without linear birefringence. The limitations due to the Kerr effect and optical feedbacks in the system are also investigated.

Fiber optic technology started in 1970’s, for long distance telecommunications, and it has experienced an exponential growth during the last four decades. Sensing applications are a small spin-off from this technology, taking profit of developments done for optoelectronic components and concepts. Optical fibers are cylindrical dielectric waveguides for

The development of fiber-optic technology was mainly driven by the requirements of the telecommunications industry. Nonetheless one should not overlook that telecommunications is not the only application of fiber optics. The other major application area is in metrology and data acquisition.

Fiber-Optic Based Cell Sensors
2009Different whole cell fiber optic based biosensors have been developed to detect the total effect of a wide range of environmental pollutants, providing results within a very short period. These biosensors are usually built from three major components, the biorecognition element (whole-cells) intimately attached to a transducer (optic fiber) using a ...
