A reliable architecture for broadband fiber-wireless access networks
OFC 2003 Optical Fiber Communications Conference, 2003., 2003We propose a broad-band DWDM/SCM fiber-wireless access network based on a two-level bidirectional path-protected ring (BPR) architecture. This architecture can perform self-healing function under link failure. The proposed network can provide high reliability, excellent flexibility and large bandwidth for future broad-band wireless networks.

BBoF v.s. RFoF in Fiber-Wireless Communication Systems
2018 IEEE/CIC International Conference on Communications in China (ICCC), 2018In this paper, we study the modeling and performance of the downlink of fiber-wireless communication (FWC) systems, where a central unit (CU) is connected through optical links to multiple radio access points (RAPs), which provide wireless coverage to mobile users.

Optical physical-layer network coding over fiber-wireless
39th European Conference and Exhibition on Optical Communication (ECOC 2013), 2013We propose and experimentally demonstrate the first optical physical-layer network coding (OPNC) prototype to boost throughput in an OFDM fiber-wireless network. Our technique does not require symbol-level synchronization and only requires moderate modifications of the packet preamble in IEEE 802.11 standard specification.

Integrated fiber-wireless networks: What, why and how
IEEE Africon '11, 2011Recent popularization of video-centric handheld devices including smart phones and computer tablets has led to a sharp increase in the demand for wired and wireless data capacity and coverage towards the edge of modern communication networks. Since these devices are operated mostly from inside buildings, in-building coverage and capacity have also ...

Towards energy-efficient hybrid Fiber-Wireless Access Networks
2011 13th International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks, 2011In this paper, we present an energy efficient signaling framework which runs over the converged architecture of the conventional EPON and candidate 4G wireless access technologies. In the proposed framework, joint ONU-BS nodes form energy-saving pairs to enable one of the ONU modules in the pair to be in the sleep mode while the other ONU is handling ...

Review of linearization techniques for fiber-wireless systems
2014 IEEE International Wireless Symposium (IWS 2014), 2014Optical and electrical linearization techniques are reviewed for broadband radio over fiber transmission. The optical linearization includes optical mixed polarization and two-wavelength linearization, and the electrical linearization includes analog pre-distortion circuit.

Integratable antennas for millimeter-wave fiber-wireless applications
The 15th Annual Meeting of the IEEE Lasers and Electro-Optics Society, 2003In this paper we explore two procedures for integrating antenna, RF and photonic functions into compact modules. We focus on indirect integration, where functions of the sub-system are developed on separate materials, however the overall module shares a common housing, and direct integration, where some of the functions of the module are integrated ...

Fiber-wireless signal transport by terahertz waves
2014 International Conference on Advanced Technologies for Communications (ATC 2014), 2014In this study, a high-capacity and low-latency fiber-wireless signal transport technology in the terahertz band is discussed. An advanced optical fiber communication technology is easily adopted for high-capacity terahertz signal transmission, as well as for encapsulation of existing radio services into the terahertz carrier.
