Epidemiologic studies and clinical trials have demonstrated the benefits of dietary fiber. This occurs through a combination of the physiochemical properties of fiber and through microbial fermentation that occurs in the colon which result in the production of short-chain fatty acids (SCFA). The purpose of this review is to highlight the physiochemical

Strength of composites with long-aligned fibers: fiber–fiber and fiber–crack interaction
Composites Part B: Engineering, 1998Abstract This paper presents a finite element formulation of elasticity to model elastic fracture in composites with long aligned fibers. We have employed a B-bar type approach which is applicable to compressible as well as nearly incompressible material systems.

Fiber–fiber interaction in concentrated suspensions: Disperse fibers
Journal of Rheology, 1999A hypothesis for fiber–fiber interaction in planar randomly oriented concentrated fiber suspensions is proposed and tested. The idea is that at sufficiently high fiber concentrations, friction and lubrication at fiber–fiber contact points are the dominant interaction mechanisms.
