Micro-displacement sensors based on plastic photonic bandgap Bragg fibers

open access: yes, 2013
We demonstrate an amplitude-based micro-displacement sensor that uses a plastic photonic bandgap Bragg fiber with one end coated with a silver layer. The reflection intensity of the Bragg fiber is characterized in response to different displacements (or ...

Humidity Influence on Mechanics and Failure of Paper Materials: Joint Numerical and Experimental Study on Fiber and Fiber Network Scale [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
Paper materials are natural composite materials and well-known to be hydrophilic unless chemical and mechanical processing treatments are undertaken. The relative humidity impacts the fiber elasticity, the fiber-fiber bonds and the failure mechanism.

Bioengineering facets of the tumor microenvironment in 3D tumor models: insights into cellular, biophysical and biochemical interactions

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The tumor microenvironment is a dynamic, multifaceted complex system of interdependent cellular, biochemical, and biophysical components. Three‐dimensional in vitro models of the tumor microenvironment enable a better understanding of these interactions and their impact on cancer progression and therapeutic resistance.

Genome-Wide Association Study Discovered Favorable Single Nucleotide Poly Morphisms and Candidate Genes Associated with Ramie (Boehmeria Nivea L.) Colloidal Matters

open access: yesJournal of Natural Fibers, 2023
Ramie (Boehmeria nivea L.) bast fiber is one of the most ancient natural fibers, which is used for textile only after degumming. Hemicellulose, pectin, and hydrotrope are the main colloidal matters in ramie fiber, which are removed when degumming ...

Effects of dietary protein and fiber at breakfast on appetite, ad libitum energy intake at lunch, and neural responses to visual food stimuli in overweight adults [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Increasing either protein or fiber at mealtimes has relatively modest effects on ingestive behavior. Whether protein and fiber have additive or interactive effects on ingestive behavior is not known.

Fibered Correspondence [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2007
Base of fibered correspondence is arbitrary correspondence. Fibered correspondence is interesting when we consider relationship between different bundles. However composition of fibered correspondences may not always be defined. Reduced fibered correspondence is defined only between fibers over the same point of base.

Hydrophobicity causes anomalous migration of cystine/glutamate antiporter SLC7A11 in SDS‐PAGE with low acrylamide concentration

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
SLC7A11 frequently migrates faster in SDS‐PAGE. The present study found that the high hydrophobicity of SLC7A11 causes its anomalous migration in SDS‐PAGE with a low concentration of acrylamide gel. Replacing isoleucine with asparagine reduced hydrophobicity and restored its normal migration at 55 kDa, revealing the role of hydrophobicity and gel ...

Temperature Insensitive Vector Bending Sensor Based on Asymmetrical Cascading SMF-PCF-SMF Structure

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2017
A temperature insensitive vector curvature sensor of photonic crystal fiber (PCF) is presented based on core-offset splicing and waist-enlarged fiber taper. Obvious red and blue shifts in transmission spectrum appear at two symmetrical bending directions

Commissioning evaluation of a deviceless 4DCT scanner

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Background The utilization of four‐dimensional computed tomography (4DCT) for radiation therapy has not seen major advances to the method of data binning since shortly after inception. Recently there is increased interest in the utilization of an alternative binning method rather than more established techniques.
