Experimental study on the impact of signal bandwidth on the transverse mode instability threshold of fiber amplifiers.

open access: yesOptics Express, 2022
In this work, we conduct a detailed experimental study on the impact of signal bandwidth on the TMI threshold of fiber amplifiers. Both the filtered superfluorescent fiber sources and the phase-modulated single-frequency lasers are employed to construct ...

Radiation-Balanced Silica Fiber Amplifier [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2021
We report what we believe to be the first radiation-balanced fiber amplifier - a device that provides optical gain while experiencing no temperature rise. The gain medium is a silica fiber with a 21 um-diameter core highly doped with Yb3+ (2.52 wt.%) and co doped with 2.00 wt.% Al to reduce concentration quenching.

Phase-sensitive amplification of an optical signal in the modulation instability sidebands with single-frequency pump [PDF]

open access: yesИзвестия Саратовского университета. Новая серия: Физика, 2023
Background and Objectives: The use of optical amplifiers in optical communications systems is currently of great interest. An optical signal can be amplified using semiconductor amplifiers, erbium or Raman amplifiers.

Optimization and Demonstration of Direct LD Pumped High-Power Fiber Lasers to Balance SRS and TMI Effects

open access: yesPhotonics, 2023
Up to now, transverse mode instability (TMI) and stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) have become the main factors limiting the power scaling of conventional ytterbium-doped fiber laser. Many technologies are proposed to suppress the SRS or TMI individually,

Theoretical Analysis of Thermal Distribution and Waveform Evolution in Pulsed Ytterbium-Doped Fiber Amplifier with Extra Feedback

open access: yesPhotonics, 2023
Pulsed ytterbium-doped fiber amplifiers (YDFA) with ns-level signal width are important devices for obtaining high-power pulsed lasers. When some components in the amplifier are ineffective, e.g., the isolator or fiber is damaged, extra feedback light is

Principal modes in fiber amplifiers [PDF]

open access: yesOptics Letters, 2011
The dynamics of the state of polarization in single mode and multimode fiber amplifiers are presented. The experimental results reveal that although the state of polarizations at the output can vary over a large range when changing the temperatures of the fiber amplifiers, the variations are significantly reduced when resorting to the principal states ...

SURVEY OF HYBRID EDFA/RAMAN IN C AND L BANDS

open access: yesRevista Ingeniería, Matemáticas y Ciencias de la Información, 2017
Optical amplifiers have had a breakthrough in recent years. Initially, amplification of optical signals was performed passing the optical signal to the electrical domain, then the amplified signal back again to the optical domain.
