All-optical differential current detection technique for unit protection applications [PDF]
In this paper we demonstrate a novel, all-optical differential current protection scheme. By monitoring the optical power reflected from two matched hybrid fiber Bragg grating current sensors and using a simple optoelectronic threshold detector, an ...

A novel self‐adhesive hydrogel matrix is engineered to embed a fiber Bragg grating sensor for real‐time monitoring of physiological strain signals. The developed system conforms to the skin without external supports and, thanks to the fiber–matrix mechanical coupling, captures both subtle and large‐scale deformations.

Mechanical strength of silica fiber splices after exposure to extreme temperatures [PDF]
By using a combination of type-I and regenerated gratings, the mechanical strength of optical fiber splices after exposure to temperatures over 1300 C was characterized. Splice strength was found to decrease with temperature with a secondorder polynomial

Phase-Shifted Fiber Bragg Grating by Selective Pitch Slicing
This paper presents a new type of phase-shifted Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG): the sliced-FBG (SFBG). The fabrication process involves cutting a standard FBG inside its grating region. As a result, the last grating pitch is shorter than the others.

The Fundamental of Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) Sensor
An optical sensor known as an FBG is produced by laterally exposing a single mode fiber core to a strong UV laser light pattern on a regular basis. The exposure causes a sustained increase in the refractive index (ncore) of the fiber's core, resulting in fixed index modulation called grating (λ).

Air Gap Fiber Bragg Grating for Simultaneous Strain and Temperature Measurement
We propose an air gap fiber Bragg grating (g-FBG) sensor that can measure strain and temperature simultaneously. The sensor is made by aligning two fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs), and an air gap exists between these two sub-gratings.

Analysis and Optimization of Thermodiffusion of an FBG Sensor in the Gas Nitriding Process
In this paper, we report the numerical calculations for a thermo-optical model and the temperature sensitivity of a fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensor.

Brillouin lasing in single-mode tapered optical fiber with inscribed fiber Bragg grating array
A tapered optical fiber has been manufactured with an array of fiber Bragg gratings (FBG) inscribed during the drawing process. The total fiber peak reflectivity is 5% and the reflection bandwidth is ∼3.5 nm. A coherent frequency domain reflectometry has
