Coaxial optical fiber coupling

Journal of Lightwave Technology, 1985
The main purpose of this work is to demonstrate and physically explain the operation of coaxial directional coupling. Two approaches have been used to explain the behavior of the coaxial couplers. Mode coupling theory and normal mode interference have been successfully employed in the design of such couplers.

Coupling mechanism in multimode fibers

SPIE Proceedings, 2013
The steady increase of bandwidth demand in worldwide communications has revived the interest about multimode optical bers and their use in spatial division multiplexed systems. Roughly speaking, in these systems transmission capacity is increased by using modes as separate channels, resorting to either special ber with negligible mode coupling, or to ...

Mode coupling in on‐fiber devices

Microwave and Optical Technology Letters, 1988
AbstractOn‐fiber devices are fabricated by removing the cladding over a short length of the multimode fiber and replacing it with an active medium like electrooptic or magnetooptic material. When a field is applied, the index of this modified cladding goes up, leading to a redistribution of modal amplitudes, which may or may not be accompanied by ...

Coupling of modes in on-fiber devices

Annual Meeting Optical Society of America, 1988
On-fiber devices are fabricated by removing the cladding over a short length of the multimode fiber and replacing it with an active medium like electrooptic or magnetooptic material. When a field is applied, the index of the modified cladding in this active region goes up, leading to a redistribution of modal amplitudes, which may or may not be ...
