The Optimization Guidance of Hollow Antiresonant Fibers Based on Various Optimization Methods

open access: yesPhotonics
This paper employs five different general-purpose optimization methods to perform parameter optimization on single-layer hollow antiresonant fibers. It provides guidance on the establishment of hyperparameters for various optimization methods, with the ...

Artificial Neural Network Modeling of Abrasion Loss and Surface Roughness of Crab Carapace Impregnated Coir Vinyl Ester Composites

open access: yesAdvances in Materials Science and Engineering, 2022
Roughness plays an important role in determining how an object would be related with its environment. In tribology, rough surfaces easily obtain wear more quickly and have higher friction coefficients than smooth surfaces.

Al–Cu Composite Casting of Laser‐Deoxidized Copper: Bonding, Interfacial Chemistry, and Thermal Conductivity

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser‐based oxide removal of Cu inserts in oxygen‐free conditions and examines long‐term oxidation kinetics and surface chemistry under different atmospheres via X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Al–Cu compound casting with differently oxidized surfaces is performed, and intermetallic phase formation, morphology, and thermal ...

The Layer 0 Inner Silicon Detector of the D0 Experiment

open access: yes, 2009
This paper describes the design, fabrication, installation and performance of the new inner layer called Layer 0 (L0) that was inserted in the existing Run IIa Silicon Micro-Strip Tracker (SMT) of the D0 experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron collider.

Selective Laser Sintering of Passive Dynamic Ankle-Foot Orthoses [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Passive dynamic ankle-foot orthoses (AFO’s) are used to improve gait performance in those with various neuromuscular disorders. An important design characteristic of passive dynamic AFOs is the storage and release of elastic energy within its structure

Assessing Altered Coating Adhesion on Plasma‐Deoxidized Surfaces Under Oxygen‐Free Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates the effectiveness of atmospheric pressure plasma pretreatment in modifying silicon and stainless steel surfaces to improve adhesion. Argon‐hydrogen plasma increases surface roughness and improves adhesion strength, whereas pure argon results in smoother surfaces and structural changes.

A novel coaxial nozzle for in-process adjustment of electrospun scaffolds’ fiber diameter

open access: yesCurrent Directions in Biomedical Engineering, 2015
Electrospinning is a versatile method of producing micro- and nanofibers deposited in mats used as scaffolds for tissue engineering. Depending on the application, single or coaxial electrospinning can be used. Coaxial electrospinning enables the use of a

Resonant THz sensor for paper quality monitoring using THz fiber Bragg gratings

open access: yes, 2013
We report fabrication of THz fiber Bragg gratings (TFBG) using CO2 laser inscription on subwavelength step-index polymer fibers. A fiber Bragg grating with 48 periods features a ~4 GHz-wide stop band and ~15 dB transmission loss in the middle of a stop ...
