Wetting behavior of flax fibers as reinforcement for polypropylene
Journal of Colloid and Interface Science, 2003The wetting behavior of several flax (cellulose as reference) and polypropylene fibers is characterized by measuring the wetting rates (penetration velocities) of a series of liquids using the capillary rise technique. This present paper aims to provide a deeper understanding of the complex nature of natural fibers and their surface properties.

Numerical modeling of the flax fiber morphology variability
Composites Part A: Applied Science and Manufacturing, 2014Abstract This paper provides a methodology for the numerical modeling of the scattering observed in the geometry of plant fiber cross-sections. It is well known that the observed random microstructures are expected to have a significant impact on the calculation of their effective properties.

Mineral Nutrition of Linseed and Fiber Flax
1987Publisher Summary This chapter describes the mineral nutrition of linseed and fiber flax. Flax is a temperate winter-growing annual ranging in height from 20 cm to over 100 cm depending on the cultivar. Seedling establishment is slow at the low temperatures experienced in winter in the Australian wheat belt, and the small seedling competes poorly ...

Enzyme-retting of flax and characterization of processed fibers
Journal of Biotechnology, 2001Enzyme-retting formulations consisting of Viscozyme L, a pectinase-rich commercial enzyme product, and ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) were tested on Ariane fiber flax and North Dakota seed flax straw residue. Flax stems that were crimped to disrupt the outer layers were soaked with various proportions of Viscozyme-EDTA solutions, retted, and ...
