Statistical Properties of the Nonlinear Stage of Modulation Instability in Fiber Optics. [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2019
We present an optical fiber experiment in which we examine the space-time evolution of a modulationally unstable plane wave initially perturbed by a small noise.

Nonlinear chalcogenide optical fiber couplers

open access: yesOptics Express, 2022
We demonstrate chalcogenide optical fiber couplers with a power-dependent coupling coefficient. The couplers are designed and fabricated using an As2Se3 fiber and characterized at a wavelength of 1938 nm, leading to a critical power of 126 W, the lowest ever reported for any optical fiber coupler.

Nonlinearities in Silicon Optical Fibers [PDF]

open access: yesOptical Fiber Communication Conference/National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference 2011, 2011
The nonlinear propagation characteristics in a hydrogenated amorphous silicon core optical fiber are investigated to demonstrate ultra-fast all-optical switching by cross-absorption modulation.

A Geometrical View of Scalar Modulation Instability in Optical Fibers

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2017
Full models of scalar modulation instability (MI) in optical fibers available in the literature usually involve complex formulations. In this paper, we present a novel approach to the analysis of MI in optical fibers by means of a simple geometrical ...

Fast and accurate modelling of nonlinear pulse propagation in graded-index multimode fibers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
We develop a model for the description of nonlinear pulse propagation in multimode optical fibers with a parabolic refractive index profile. It consists in a 1+1D generalized nonlinear Schr\"odinger equation with a periodic nonlinear coefficient, which ...

Generation and manipulation of squeezed states of light in optical networks for quantum communication and computation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
We analyze a fiber-optic component which could find multiple uses in novel information-processing systems utilizing squeezed states of light. Our approach is based on the phenomenon of photon-number squeezing of soliton noise after the soliton has ...
