Evaluation of the OpTest Fiber Quality Analyzer for Quantifying Cotton and Rayon Microfibers

open access: yesFibers
Microfibers are small fiber particles that separate from larger textiles through wear abrasion or home laundering. Pervasive accumulation of synthetic microfibers in the environment is motivating efforts to quantify them, and to gain a better ...

A Double-Cladding Single Polarization Photonic Crystal Fiber and Its Structure Deviation Tolerance

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2018
We propose a novel broadband single-polarization single-mode (SPSM) photonic crystal fiber with hexagonally latticed circular airholes. Combined with our fabricated polarization maintaining fiber, it has demonstrated that the enlarged air holes in the ...

Characterization of domestic high performance carbon fibers and mechanical properties of carbon fibers reinforced matrix composites

open access: yesCailiao gongcheng, 2020
The morphologies and surface chemical properties of domestic T800 grade carbon fibers A and imported Toray T800H were characterized by means of scanning electronic microscopy(SEM), atomic force microscope (AFM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS).

Influence of Fiber Volume and Fiber Length on Thermal and Flexural Properties of a Hybrid Natural Polymer Composite Prepared with Banana Stem, Pineapple Leaf, and S-Glass

open access: yesAdvances in Materials Science and Engineering, 2021
There is more demand for natural fiber-reinforced composites in the energy sector, and their impact on the environment is almost zero. Natural fiber has plenty of advantages, such as easy recycling and degrading property, low density, and low price ...

FAILURE PROPERTIES OF FIBER BUNDLE MODELS [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Modern Physics B, 2003
We study the failure properties of fiber bundles when continuous rupture goes on due to the application of external load on the bundles. We take the two extreme models: equal load sharing model (democratic fiber bundles) and local load sharing model. The strength of the fibers are assumed to be distributed randomly within a finite interval.

Single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assays for high‐throughput DNA–protein interaction studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We describe an optimised single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assay that visualises DNA–protein interactions in real time. Linear DNA fragments are tethered to a surface and stretched by buffer flow for fluorescence imaging. Using λ and φX174 DNA, this protocol enhances reproducibility and accessibility, providing a versatile approach for studying diverse ...

Beam Transmission Properties in High Power Ytterbium-Doped Tandem-Pumping Fiber Amplifier

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2019
This paper presented beam evolution in entire fiber laser from a more qualitative perspective. Specifically, the beam transmission properties under the condition of the disturbances of the refraction index, during the full length of active fiber in ...

Early‐life high‐fat diet exposure increases Achilles tendon stiffness and induces transcriptomic alterations

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Early‐life exposure to a high‐fat diet altered intact Achilles tendons in rat offspring, making them thinner, stiffer, and molecularly distinct even without injury. These findings suggest that developmental high‐fat diet exposure may impair tendon quality and increase susceptibility to mechanical overload or tendon injury later in life.

Chemical composition and fiber properties of fast-growing species in Latvia and its potential for forest bioindustry

open access: yesMetsanduslikud Uurimused, 2017
Bioenergy, including energy from wood, currently provides about 9–13% of the total global energy supply. Every fibre of fast-growing wood has a value for its potential use as a material in both pulp and paper and wood chemical industries. The aim of this
